What is your preferred gym or fitness center and why? Consider how easy and safe is it to shower there, is there ample parking, is the workout equipment in good repair, is there a pool, sauna, or hot tub, are the staff or trainers helpful, do you use multiple locations, is it handicap accessible, cost is it a good value for the money?   ~crofter

My favorite gym was the YMCA because cost was low, and they had pools in multiple locations, hot pool also, as well as good workout equipment and an inside running track in the rainey city. The membership was not very portable, even though they said it would be, and there was a high fee to join (I started during a summer special so the fee was waived). The monthly fee was about $25. Showers were excellent, but no parking lot so had to deal with parking meters. Some of the Y's are old and broken equipment/ plumbing can be a problem. We had cold showers for a while while the hot water lines were being worked on.   ~crofter

my favorite gym is mother nature. very inexpensive, there is no machines to break, don't have to worry if the person before you on a machine had some type of communicable disease, or the shower floor has some kind of fungus. besides most of the small towns I visit don't even have a gym. does Quartzsite have a gym? highdesertranger

There are some little hills behind where I live. Plus hawks, ground squirrels and a great view. If you ever get to Lake Havasu City, I believe there are 6 workout places there.

Yes HDR. Quartzsite is full of gyms. You can do hikerobics, climbliptical, and cardiobicycling. If you don’t get enough that way hayrobics is available at your nearest farm.

For showering at the mother nature gym, how is the greywater disposal going? One of the conveniences where I go is that is all included in the $10 per month, plus use of electric outlets in the locker rooms.

Altho I live a distance from town, I combine trips to town saving gas. If you decided to use a gym, a couple of the above listed ones in driving distance of Quartzsite area plus a couple others in Blythe. When I am down there I have access to a private gym in Yuma and also member of a public one there. -crofter

shower, what's that? just kidding

where it's legal I just let the grey water go on the ground, I have one of those teak wood shower base's that just lets the water flow to the ground. in other areas I go to the pay showers. actually I have found the pay showers more common and easier to find than gyms.

a real shower is on my list for my trailer. in fact it was one of my main motivators for getting a trailer. by real shower I mean a full size shower not an RV shower.

One or two black buckets left out in the sun plus a mebbe 30 buck battery-powered shower head dipping into them makes a very fine shower in any but winter weather.

HDR, I assume you're going to put 2 rather large tanks in the back of the truck for convenience of transportation to and from the trailer, one for fresh water and one for black water. Be sure and paint a skull and crossbones on one of them.

People in RVs that stay long term in dry camping areas usually have a small tilting trailer with two 55 gallon barrels mounted. One has a macerator pump for gray water/ sewage and a dump valve the other a filtration system with a sure flow fresh water pump. They sometimes mount a battery with a solar panel on top or just use a jumper pack. It probably costs more to set it up but if you fulltime for several years less than driving to and paying for a gym membership.

Do you have any links to this, frog, or are they mainly DIY setups? The caravans should have these things.

There are some commercial made ones I believe but most I have seen are owner made out of recycled food grade white 55 gallon drums ($25 each) on cheap tilting trailers. Some people will sell them with their RVs but I rarely see them for sale. If you bought everything new you could spend up to $800 but many scrounge up pieces and parts and have little or nothing into them. I first saw one when we had a small brush fire and a guy pulled up with his and used the fresh water pump with a hose and spray nozzle to put it out. I wonder if BLM would permit a group of vans in long term areas to use one?

I voted pfit because its the cheapest one I know of that has convenient locations for where I like to be. It's not the nicest, but comes in at half the price of the next cheapest competitor that I am aware of. The YMCA near here is almost 4x the price, 72/month.

My favorite gyms are the community centers in most towns where I can go to swim/exercise/shower. Sometimes it's the Y, but more often it's a local community/aquatic center. I've paid free to $4 max for the above privileges for a day.

My last community shower was at a YMCA-free for a shower only.
