i'm back on the road in a couple of days after a month of house/dog sitting in Boulder CO.

i want to see Yellowstone then i have to work my way back to SF CA area, via Oregon. is there anything interesting to see or places to can in southern Idaho?

thx

i just found canyons of the moon and shoshone falls which both look nice and on the way.

looking on freecampsites.net i'm not seeing any free camping on the south Oregon and north CA coast. any suggestions?

Hey Steve :)

We've worked our way down the Or coast from Astoria over the past couple months. Been a wonderful trip with plenty of places to stop for a few days or so. Been in the Coos Bay area the last few weeks. Will be migrating southward next month sometime.
Where will you be connecting with the coast (hwy 101)?

I hope there's a ton of suggestions. My van MAY be ready for a trip soon, and my plan would be to go north along the coast and south, not to far inland. Or the other direction. North inland, south along the coast. I paint, so besides campgrounds of whatever sort, I'm also interested in suggestions to free, (easily) accessible/safe scenic areas at which to spend a few hours painting. That means concentrating on an unusual, or dramatic scene, something you can't just see everyday. not so much other people/critters. I have a National Park Pass, which helps.
That would be a goal.

Craters of the Moon in southern Idaho. what do you like to do? that would make a difference for suggestions. highdesertranger

Leave Yellowstone by going north on the Beartooth Highway because it is the most spectacular drive in America. Then I'd go to Missoula and take Lolo pass into Idaho, to Hell's Canyon on the Snake River. Lot's of National Parks in the area, it's just just a matter of if you have time to see them all.

Places not to be missed are
1) the Wallowa Mountains near Joseph, OR;
2) Mt Rainer NP in WA and
3) Smith Rock State Park in OR.

Excellent suggestions there Bob! ^^^

I'd like to suggest Silver Falls State Park (30 east of Salem Oregon.)
This is an amazing park and a beautiful campground, and is a very unknown secret highlight of our beautiful state!

As you come down the coast, there are literally TONS of beautiful spots to stop and paint along the coastline here.

You could always wander up some of the gorgeous rivers and spend alittle time painting up there.
