been using these square 5 gal. jugs since the 80's.

BTW, you can sometimes find these 5 gallon racing gas jugs at...of all places, farm co-ops.

Just another source to check out, I dont know what the prices would be now or the type of spout they would have, but I just bought the threaded barb that screws in the top and attached a short hose to it.

Works great!

And by the way, if you're not actually military, the color code is supposed to be Red for Gasoline, Yellow for Diesel Fuel, and Blue for Kerosene.

SureCan - Lowes sell them.

https://www.surecanusa.com/product-page/2-2-gallon-gasoline-surecan

"The award winning 2.2 Gallon SureCan was designed with your small machines in mind. With patented technology the SureCan offers its user the best experience they have ever had with a fuel can!

The flexible spout rotates down more than 180 degrees and fits perfectly into any machines fill location while the thumb release trigger on top controls the flow. By pulling strait back on the safety trigger and then down on the thumb button fuel is released immediately while you stay in complete control the entire time. When you notice your fill tank is almost full slowly release the thumb button and allow the excess fuel to drain from the top of the spout before rotating it back up. No more bending over and tipping your fuel can forward and holding it in an awkward position! The SureCan is a high quality fuel dispensing machine!"

SureCan. Forty bucks for a plastic gas can.

Can't afford the gas AND the can......

I would like to point something out.  there are three government agencies that want to control your gas can design,  DOT,  OSHA,  and EPA.  so far there is not a can approved by all three and some cans like the one Bardo posted is not approved by anybody.

Not really a surprise--those are three entirely different agencies with drastically different objectives, aims, and priorities.

It is a bit surprising that no inventive genius has yet come up with something that meets all three sets of goals and priorities, though.

It's entirely possible that the goals are impossibly contradictory.

True Story.  The Juvenile Corrections Agency I used to work at had metal wastebaskets.  The people concerned with staff safety wanted to replace them with plastic wastebaskets.  The metal wastebaskets could be used as weapons to bludgeon the staff.

The people concerned with fire safety said we would replace the metal baskets with plastic ones over their dead bodies.

By law, or at least by agency regulations, the fire safety concerns took precedence over staff safety.

But I digress.

Yes its a bit pricier but personally I have gone thru few cheap cans and sooner or later they all had issues from the spout to leaking overall.

If you take time to understand the design, you'll understand why its easy to use and no leaks. For one, the discharged is located at the bottom of the can not on top where you have to tilt the cheap can to get gas out. Second, the spout stores upright and pivots downwards to any angle position you see best when you fuel up and third you control the release trigger.

I have had excellent experience with Sure Can.

general statement - its comical to see people buy cheap products and complaint it doesn't work well and then buys a well made product and complaints it cost too much. pure comical. each's own. I'm starting to think some just like to complaint period LOL.

Speaking of color...if you're gassing up in New Jersey:
1. No self serve, an attendant handles the pump...it's the law. (there are rumors this may change...don't know if Christie ever got it thru)
2. Gas containers MUST be red.

This was even enforced at NJ Motorsports Park at the track pumps for 110 octane...no problem with the fact it had 'lead' in it...just had to be pumped by the track 'gas jockey' and it had to go into a red container. No rules about the end user then transferring the gas to our 'non red' jugs...go figure!

And our first visit there showed up some shortcomings with their 'shore power' set up so a trip into town for regular gas for the generators required a detour to Walmart for some RED cans....it was a heckuva weekend!

Support Jobs. A young person can get a job at a 'gas station' in New Jersey. The local Wawa has at least 10 people, maybe more, to work the pumps. Part time and shift work, and assigned shifts. None of that Ethanol smell on my hands or clothing.

They had one for for at least 50 years, and then they 'improved' them.

LMTLMT: "... its comical to see people buy cheap products and complaint it doesn't work well and then buys a well made product and complaints it cost too much..."

It's also somewhat amusing to hear/read of people who have plenty of money put down people who have to carefully pick and choose where they spend what little money they have. Congratulations on your comfortable life.

JohnnyB:  "... an attendant handles the pump...it's the law........... 2. Gas containers MUST be red."

OR is the same (their gas is ~$2.66/gal); across the river here in WA it's completely self-serve (the price averages $2.81).  In NJ, gas is ~$2.30; NY: $2.40; PA: $2.45.  It usually isn't the cost of gas as it is the taxes.  Apparently, when the state goes for self-service, they raise taxes to pay for the unemployment and welfare.  Good trade?

They made the Red Can Law because too many morons were getting gas in plastic water bottles (etc).  Did the morons care if the bottle had been sitting in the sun for a year? No.

Some of these color standards for small fuel cans are from OSHA, the DOT, and CARB.

Transport on public roads, and especially if there is an accident, means that first responders and anyone else on scene after an accident, might be able to visually identify the hazards...or at least, have an idea what they might be dealing with.

This thread served its purpose well, we now know where to get a good gas can.

Now it has descended into cynicism, insults, and attacks and serves no good purpose except to make people angry and give them something to fight about.

All of which are exactly the opposite of what this forum is about.
