Hidy Ho There Nomads,
I'm building my van, moving and shaking as planned.   However, I've run into an oversite.  Last year, when I budgeted all the funds I would need for all my equipment, appliances, food, gas, and fun (of course), I thought I had enough to leave by such-and-such date.  I was, however, mistaken.  I don't know what the hells bells happened, but based on my income, and my specific, undeniable list of expenses, I could face anywhere from a 4-6 month delay.  It's disheartening, but there's not much I can do beyond a couple budget cuts (any more and I'm not building the van the way I want, which is what I told myself I'd do).
I was wondering what time of the year is ideal to leave for a maiden voyage.first timer.  I wish to maximize experiences, and just assumed that all the fun stuff, van dweller gatherings, adventuring in parks, festivals, ect.. was better done in the warmer months.  I also heard Bob mention a lot of nomads are out and about traveling during the warmer months.  If I couldn't leave until October at the latest or July at the earliest, would it be advised to wait until the following year?  I know I don't need Summertime/Summer weather to commune with nature or be by myself, but like I said, I wanted have fun on my first leg of van life.
Any wisdom is appreciated,
Rabbit

In a normal year after Labor Day is a good time. Kids back in school, the summer crowds aren't clogging the national or state parks and the heat of the summer starts easing.

Then it's not long before the foliage starts to turn with the crisper temps. In most areas you don't need A/C or heating and some campgrounds are free after LD (in Colorado anyway).

That's my favorite time of the year.

A lot depends on your cash reserves and where you are starting from. If starting this time of year, you’d probably want to be in the southwest. Also it’s a little late to be trying to find part-time work to improve your income. You might want to look in the ‘money’ section as there is a fairly long thread there concerning ways to find part-time jobs.

Typically this is the idle season. The beet harvest is over as well as the Amazon Christmas rush. Summer time is often the time for campground hosting.

In addition to the ‘part-time’ income thread in the money section, there was a recent youTube that Bob Wells put out describing ways to apply for work, including summer-time campground hosting. I’d check those out. Good Luck...
