How many miles are too many miles for you? I typically think anything over 150K is kinda bad.

I was talking with a guy the other day who ownds two Safari/Astro's at same time as work vehicles. One has 247K and the other one with 150k and in need of a tranny. I have read of problems with them but he reported the one with 247 not a bit of trouble. I guess it is a hit and miss as far as reliability. I also guess that regular maintainance counts for a lot. He said he drives them hard.
Our 01 Olds Silhouette with 132k has been fine but recently needed a new electric window motor. The price of parts is a lot less with the domestic vehicles I suspect as compared to the imports. Just something to consider when thinking of a used vehicle. Hope this helps, when considering. i try to ignore mileage and look at how it was maintained, treated, give it a good inspection and who the owners were... some of my best cars have had over 250K.
low of mileage could mean it was sitting.
from what i've seen there's 2 kinds of high mileage:
due to age: usually beat up and not maintained... a beater. "throw it in the gutter and go buy another"
due to high miles per year: usually maintained better, somebody got a lot of seat time in it so they didn't want it breaking down

i would say 500K is max for me if it has a full service history and the owner is either a "car guy" that's active in the car community or i know him/her... 350K from a random person with a full service history.... without a service history it all depends on the inspection and of course a school teacher will take better care of a car they worked for then that kid they're teaching who just got a free car.

i've had vehicles with from 60k to 265k my van has 154k and is the worst vehicle i've owned mechanically... it sat for 4 years after it began to knock(which i have narrowed down to the main crank bearings, the balance shaft or a stuck HLA)

I have a 2000 Chevy Express 1ton, 350 engine, 240,000 miles. Trans. is fine, rear main seal has started leaking, got quote from co-worker $250 to replace, have to drop transmission to replace it, wish for good old days when cars where built for the owner to work on them. But as far as used cars and miles, unfortunately it all depends on previous owner, if they never checked the oil and let the warranty lapse then a motor with 50,000 miles could be in trouble. Look for someone that kept records, they usually take better care of their vehicles.
