Your photo reminds me of a motorcycle trip I took along the West Coast one year. During the part driving up the Oregon coast I was on the road right next to the ocean. It was so foggy that all day I could never see the ocean, yet on the inland side, I could see the sun on top of the ridge. And this was in July / August. Very goofy climate there.

you can say that again. this morning I was on the beach in the sun with a good view out over the ocean but strong winds. I moved up the coast about a mile to a high bluff view point in the trees to block the wind and fix some breakfast. it was cloudy/foggy, no wind but couldn't even see the ocean at all. so I cut inland about a mile and stopped on a bluff looking east in the full sun and started cooking.

I have been on a houseboat adventure in Kentucky. It is kind of super luxurious boondocking. We are pretty much running the generator most of the day. It is surprisingly quiet but there is so much space on top for solar panels, I am surprised none of the houseboat rental places have considered adding them as a feature. 



This is a waterfall where we parked the boat overnight.

Houseboat people want AC, microwaves, freezers and refrigerators. That generator your a running is probably 5000 to 7000 watts that is maybe at least twice the size of the space available and 14 or more batteries for solar with a lot of maintenance and service on water service calls because people think they can live just like they do hooked up to the grid. You would be amazed the number of people that don't know to turn off the water pump when they are not using the water or even how to power up a generator. Even small solar additions to houseboats here at Lake Powell were failures due to high maintenance caused by lack of knowledge of one week captains.

Negative, you could be parked right where I am.
I'm not far, maybe 300 - 400' from what they call an "improved" road. That's a dirt road that they keep graded.
I'm on a flat open piece of land and the creek is closer than the road on my other side.
