I chose this forum section because the first thing I believe is absolutely critical has to do with hygiene.
I had several reasons for cutting my vandwelling short. One of the biggest reasons was an infection I picked up, I believe in Ehrenberg or Quartzite. I have read warnings about the public showers and forgot about getting a pair of shower shoes. But the infection came from bumping my leg on the seats in the shower rooms. I am diabetic and am at a much greater risk.
The solution to protect yourself from this happening is to get a can of shower disinfectant, and hose down the floor where you will be standing. Also bring two extra towels. One for the floor, and one for the bench. If I had covered the bench, I would not have scraped my leg.
I have a gym bag I keep packed with everything I need for a shower, from soaps to q~tips, socks, ect... I just grab it and have everything already packed. I would shower and then do my laundry, which meant everything was clean and fresh ready for my next shower.
A 5 gallon bucket with a gamma lid for an emergency bathroom, and a bottle for urine. Buy quality kitchen size trash bags. You will regret saving a few cents.
BABY WIPES!
Water jug, and a smaller bottle for current use. I found that old 1/2 gallon cran juice bottles were the easiest to handle and deal with. Machines to dispense water are everywhere.
Old fashion milk crates. I have 8, and they hold everything from cooking pans to food. They stack nice, and you can sit on them.
There are lot of other things, from solar power set ups, to 10,000 ways of cooking. How to sleep, tools. The list is different for almost everyone. This is what worked for me.
