Reminds me when I went down the mountain grade around Bishop CA in my 1965 Dodge 1/2 ton truck equipped with 4 wheel manual drum brakes and carrying a small truck camper. Slant 6 engine couldn't brake enough (even in 1st gear) and the manual brakes faded away completely, luckily for me there was one really sandy flat spot on the downgrade that I could jam on the brakes with all my weight and barely roll to a stop. I really thought I would have to jump out the door and let it go flying off the mountainside!
