Nahhhhhhhhh!
Don't despair.

This is windows after all........
As long as they still allow you to install 3rd party software , there will (and are already) people designing software to make it all better.

I haven't copied the links yet but here are a couple that I have seen
"Destroy Windows 10 spying 1.3"
"Windows 10 Tracking Tool 1.5"
and I'm sure there will be many many more as time goes by. All free , of course.
Check on majorgeeks.com

I'm still on the fence on upgrading my W7 , still have till July29th 2016 to decide, right ?
Lots will have changed by then , I'm sure.

I might just keep 7 till end of support and then pick up a W10 machine (with all the bugs worked out)
and then modify it till all the BS is under my control.

I also have a Vista that works perfectly (I bought it just after W7 was released and never had even a slight problem with it!), will be dual booting an Ubuntu Studio distribution on that one when Vista end of support comes up. Vista with all my windows based software for production tasks and Ubuntu for Online (and lots of production too using the Studio software that comes with that distribution.)

By "production" , I mean that I do lots of audio and video manipulation.

I have a friend that just bought a new Mac book and it only cost him $2500. :p
I can buy 6 or more Windows laptops for that,,,,,one every few years and get new + updated Processor , HDD and RAM with each new one!

The hardware inside all computers (Win+ Mac) is eerily similar. Most are built in the same few factories..........

Windows 10 got installed on my computer early this morning.  At first glance I like the layout better than 8.1 which doesn't say much because I HATED 8.1. I am not great with computers, the simpler something is the more my simple mind likes it. I miss Windows XP, never a blue screen and I could actually navigate around the accessories included with it.

I did make note of the two sites mentioned just in case. Thanks.

Me too!  That was the best OS of all, IMO.

I kinda miss the WinME of my old eTower machine, as the hackers totally ignored it.  When the XP machines at work and elsewhere were dropping like flies due to an intense virus barrage, my little eMachine just kept going, like that Energizer rabbit.  But it had an upper limit on the memory it could use, so my final upgrade became too limited.  That is when I took the XP plunge at home.  Lost two of them to hackers over the years.

After carefully considering all the pros and cons of Win10, listing each in comparison to my current modified Win8.1, I come to the conclusion that for now, Win10 will not give me anything my current system doesn't, and I avoid the cons of it.  I will revisit the issue later when we have some real world reviews from users to check out.

I downloaded and installed Windows 10 a few days ago. Previously I had Windows 7. To tell the truth, there really isn't that much of a difference for me functionally. Aesthetically it is a lot nicer. Or at least to me it is. I have noticed that things seem to be running smoother since the upgrade. Now, I did go into the settings and change my privacy options so that it's not tracking me. Theoretically. I didn't activate the Cortana thing as I just don't see the need with a laptop. Maybe a tablet or phone. I set it up so that I still log in locally. I don't log into Microsoft unless I want to get an app from their store, which at the moment I can't do anyway since it seems to be broken for me. Boo hoo. I got rid of the irritating search box taking up real estate on my taskbar. I don't use the Microsoft Browser, edge. It's a nice browser though, but unusable with all the ads. I have installed a program that blocks ads though so if for some reason I need to use Edge, I will start that program up and then Edge works ok. (peerblock) You can still use all the programs you used with your previous OS, so there's no reason I need to use Edge.

Most things are close to the same and there are a few improvements. There were actually some cool free programs that were included. A snipping tool, which I searched high and low for with 7 and ended up using a snagit extension for chrome. This is just as good if not better because it's not just for chrome. Also a steps recorder, which is great for training documents. Kind of like a screencast but divided up into steps or jpgs with a description of the action.

Anyway, bottom line, is I think with the ability to change some of the more irritating privacy nonsense it's a pretty good OS.

I used the Win7 Snippet Tool a LOT.  It's one of my most important tools.  I first thought Win8.1 dropped it like Win8 was said to have - but I found it, and now am using it a LOT.
It's the same as has been for decades - we each develop our favorites among OS's and browsers.  I love Win7, have learned to tolerate Win8.1, and just currently see no valid reason to use Win10.
In browsers, I use IE, which though massively overburdened with ads and useless content, at least does work well on the average.  I have Google Chrome loaded, but hate it.  It is little more than a Google page with a few basic browser features cobbled onto it.  I keep it as a functional backup browser for those rare times that IE is down.

So each of us configures our system for the most usefulality for US.  What works best for me maybe won't work for the dear reader, and vice versa.  Cannot truly say any one is defacto 'better' than the other, as we all have different needs and preferences.
Win10 is definitely on my "back burner".......

Have win 7 working with the FENCES app and it's very pretty. Also upgraded both laptop and desktop to SSD. Turned off the tracking software that Microsoft recently pushed out as a win7 update. Smooth as glass. Fast computer. Never any issues. Run third party virus tool always.
