I just started watching the vids yesterday ... in a rather precarious circumstance and its too long a story and bunches of tmi but ... i really need some advice on how i would get started ... rent gets raised automatically yearly 35 to 40 bucks and my ssa is below 600 ... this state gives me an extra ssi of a little over 200 ... i gave up drivers license and id for 14 years and only recently got a state id ... so i need first to get a vehicle and the only way i know on my budget is a pass plan ... i dont know much about vehicles and of course i will need to get a drivers license ... that in itself is an obstical ... a few more  years like this and i will have to live in a high crime inner city area unless i make change ... any advice? Any Christians out there that are nomads and study Bible and pray at camps???

Hi Jeanie and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you're in a tough situation. Are you already in a HUD or low income apt? If not, maybe look into that. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for your response .. i have a metro voucher that can be transferred to many states but finding safe housing that accepts metro is hard and many income requirements exist even in complexes that accept it .. 3x rent income requirement .. with an income of less than 800 .. i dont qualify ... i have tried for some jobs within nearby without any fortune in that endeaver

:) Hello and Welcome

I'm in a HUD apt and in May my rent will jump to $365 for the same apt that was $68 seven years ago.   I informed the Housing Authority that they are not competitive with reg. apt. rents.  They could care less.  My Mom is in the next building or I would have moved already.

If you click on the word conversions at the top of the 1st page you can see how people have lived in and out of all types of vehicles.  There is a lot of information here and some really nice people too.

I understand about possibly living in a high crime area.  I"ve called in "shots fired" 4 or 5 times here and I live 3 blocks from the police station.

Thanks for your response ... wow ... im not a redneck or ... wow i dont think i want to be in your circumstance ... thats why i want to get a vehicle and go to some of the places i see on the vids and meet all of you people traveling and especially i am interested in the remote boomdocking .... is that what its called?

I'm just curious {nosy}......do you need to stay in your state?  What are some states or areas you would consider? I've lived in TX, SD, Ky, And here in AL in the last 12ys.  TX to SD to KY from 2005 until Al in 2010.  I lived in small towns and there was a low crime rate until I moved here.  I think SD was the best for helping out lower income residents.  A lot of small towns have affordable housing there.  SD is a EZ state to become a resident of and also to be your "home state" while maintaining a travelling/nomadic lifestyle.

Good Luck

wow just wow ... your circumstances ... yeah those neighborhoods i want to avoid ... is it called boondocking? In the remote places in the vids plus meet the regulars that camp in those remote places with the luvly views ... i think i would like it .. the vids make it sound so much safer than the inner city dwelling

Folks, this is just a friendly reminder that many of us have limited bandwidth so we ask that you carefully trim any quotes you include to the bare minimum. When you are reading on a phone, and you have to read the same post twice to get a new comment, it can be frustrating--especially if there are pictures!

Be kind and trim!! :)

For a quick, budget friendly roof over your head, the vanlifecrisis conversions are the way to go. But, youll first need a van and a DL. Id start looking for cargo vans, even the 1/2 tons (150/1500 series) just to get out of a bad situation. Not sure how much you have saved up, but youll need minimum couple $1000 to get a liveable one.

Unless you feel like a popup would be more your style. More room, but youll need a tow vehicle as well.

Ask questions! Plenty of helpful people here to steer you.
