Sounds like possibly a good deal if you stay in a city area, as it is Sprint.  Maybe not so good for travelers who like the outback.  Article says it is true 'unlimited', which makes it quite viable.  I could do my Netflix and Hulu watching with it, without getting throttled.  Too many so-called 'unlimited plans' simply aren't.

My Sprint worked in Q, but not so good in Ehrenberg.  Real spotty there.

When I got my first cell phone, it was from Sprint. I grew up in KC and liked that I was sending money back to my home town. Over the decades I rarely got over three bars, and mostly sat around one or two. Even when lived in KC again, my coverage was spotty. I moved around the western half of the U.S. a lot and got spotty or bad coverage everywhere I went. Low bars and dropped calls were the norm. Every time I called or went into the store to complain, they said they were just now in the process of putting up new towers. What a coincidence.

I had always just assumed that things were just as bad for everyone with a cell phone. Not just Sprint customers. Then I moved to Austin. I couldn't get a signal to save my life. Seriously. In only about 1% of the town could I even make a call. And then it was pretty much guaranteed to drop before I finished. I realized why it was possible for Sprint to offer unlimited 4G at the time. An unlimited supply of nothing is still nothing.

My son and all his friends had Verizon and told me they never had any problems. They all were pretty much umbilicaled to the internet through their 4G connection. So I switched. It's like night and day. Even when I only get two bars, it is two bars of 4G and I still get full bandwidth.

Summary: I have given up on Sprint, and don't think this unlimited service will prove to be a good deal.

I've been watching for reports on this device and so far they're favorable, in the covered areas.

They've got a deal going now. $50 off the device (normally $149) and pay 3 months or a year in advance for more savings, plus free shipping  Deals good through tonight.

I get a few bucks off my bill if you use my link

I'm hoping this lasts longer than OmniLynx (which got shut off this morning) Otherwise I guess I'll start a collection of hot spot devices.

here's the latest coverage map

I have been happy with the Sprint coverage on my Freedompop hotspot and after studying plans for a while, $50 for unlimited is pretty good. Just check Sprints 3G ans 4G coverage maps to see if it would work for you.

I pay $80 to Verizon for 12gb/month. $50 for unlimited sounds great but I need 100% reliability for work (web conference calls) and I'm worried coverage wouldn't be as good.

Although for $50 I might be tempted to just get both and see... and cancel Verizon when my contract runs out if the other works...

I wanted to speak to the speed that this device runs at. I have been running speed test on the two hotspots vs my home computer connected both wireless and wired.

5 mbps sounds good, it's around what the Cricket phone/ hotspot runs with a good signal. The Freedompop Mingle with 6 bars ran between 4 and 5 mbps. The desktop connected wireless ran 70 mbps, wired over 90 mbps.

With decent connections you would not know the difference between the hotspots and the cable with one big exception. The forums load fast, music and video run with little difference, what kills it is picture heavy sites like photobucket. Most of the time it seems like it's not loading at all but between the ads and the pictures, it just loads so slow at those speeds that you think the page is frozen.

The answer for photobucket was to load the app on my phone but other photo sites will be a issue.

I have verizon anyways. I was able to add the OmniLynx jetpack to my account with no activation fee or contract. I keep 3gb on my verizon account anyways. I'll use that if I have to.

I can suspend  the karma off at will and open it without paying any activation charges or fees.
