I would tell him just the weboost, weather stripping, and tank. all I can afford is $300. Maybe do $400. That's $50hr. If not someone here at some meetup will surely take you on.

frankly there's no real way to fix that tank. just buy a new one. What exactly is he going to do, JB weld it? a $5 pack of epoxy justifies that kind of price? Then you got a water tank with chemical epoxies leeching in there that will probably break because they're not meant to bend like that tank will do. Not to mention to properly apply it you have to scuff the surface which he cant do on the inside.

pulling a vhf/uhf antenna for that weboost thing is like no worse than a 30 minute job. I mean all the mounting to the roof is already there.

Thank you for sharing your this.  I took someone else's suggestion about pictures and when taking them, it looks worse than I thought.  I think the crack is under 5 inches but it does go right up to the drain, also cracked.  I tried to post the pics just now but not sure if that worked.  I called Pleasureway and they explained the process that you folks are likely already familiar with...older van, special mold, if not in stock have to special order, takes weeks to months, need to pick it up from a dealer, etc.

I am with you on the epoxy thinking.  Did not think about the chemicals, you're right.  I might have to wait and save up for a new tank.  Not happy right now, but I am grateful.  Thanks for validating that the jobs (other than maybe getting a New tank) do not warrant that kind of price.  Shoot, for that, he ought to have his own shop with a bay or two.

first off what area are you in?  maybe someone can give you a hand.  nothing you listed is real hard.  BTW don't use regular silicone on your tank,  it's not food grade.  also there is no reason the stuff you listed should keep you from hitting the road.  I we all waited until everything was 100% none of us would ever get on the road.  highdesertranger

Omg, how did you manage to get a smile out of me?  Lol.  I'm in Louisiana.  Thanks for the food grade silicone thing, good to know.  I looked into a repair kit based on another's suggestion but based on the pictures from yet another's suggestion, it does not look great.  Hopefully the pics posted successfully.  Also, epoxy, chemicals, same idea as the non-food grade thing, I dunno.  Might need a new tank.  Will see what you guys say about pics.

Thanks for the 100% statement.  Needed that.

I see a need for an honest, traveling nomad/mechanic to assist in these situations.

I realize one person could not help every one in the country, but if we had several of them, it might be a start to something good.

:)

Aww, thanks.

Okay...here's the update:

Was supposed to receive the Weboost by last night but that did not come, nor this morning.  I called mobile mechanic to let him know about the delay due to shipping and the hurricane.  Asked if he could please contact me in order to set a new date and firm up on the price.  I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because some of you guys got me thinking about my own attitude.  Also I would like not to be stuck here forever.  He has not yet called me back, and may not.  If he can't come down on price, not going to work with him, I just can't do it.

I became more concerned about the freshwater tank after taking pictures as someone suggested.  I tried to post them but I do not think that worked.  I looked in Help for help with Insert Image and did not find anything.  I'm not the most tech savvy, will keep trying.  To me the pics do not look great, I would love to hear your opinions on what would be best for me to do or some options.  The cracks do appear to be less than 5 inches (which I learned on you tube is the cutoff for using a repair kit), but the pics looks pretty gnarley and the crack does go up the drain spout.

Any of you experienced folks hanging out in Louisiana?  I might have $600 with your name on it, lol.  Thanks to you all for your continuing support.  Can't do it, without you.

Can you take a pic of the drain and post it so maybe we could give some feed back?  There are repair kits available for tanks and may work OK depending on where the crack is and how big.

Pics below now, scroll down.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Not sure if the epoxy thing will work, may need new tank.  Would love to hear forum's thoughts.  Thanks again.

I don't think a new tank is that costly. Do you know what size you have

We can see the pics but can you confirm what we are looking at?

Is that a bolt stuck thru a fitting with caulking around it? To seal a leak?

And is that a picture of the bottom of a tank from the inside?

Or is that from the outside? Is it the side or the top or the bottom?

Just trying to figure out what that is...

Maybe a picture with a side view of it would help us.

You can usually find help at old hardware stores.

Some of those older guys have been "Ozark Engeneering" things their whole life.  They can fix leaks with hydraulic putty.

I am in Missouri for now, but will be in Kentucky in the middle of next month.  I would be happy to look at it.

Do a google seatch on RV water tanks.  you will be supprise at what you find.  It must fit.

For what the "person" is quoting, take it to a dealor.

Pretty sure it is 28 gallon.  When I expressed concern to Pleasureway that a dealer might give me a universal tank, PW said no they cannot because the bottom of the tank is rectangular but the top of the tank where I cannot see is notched and grooved to fit my particular chassis.  I tried to get a part number, they wouldn't do it, must contact dealer.  Yikes.

People highly skilled at plastic welding can be found at some body shops.
Step #1 identify the plastic type.

The crack can probably be repaired with plastic welding:

Wooow, thanks.  That's pretty involved.  If that was his plan I could see why he'd need more $ than what I originally thought.  That looks like a real fix.  Do you think it would be cheaper to replace the tank?

Which route may be cheaper, the body shop or replacing the tank?  Thank you for your suggestion.

If you're not going to boondock for long periods, you could get a smaller tank. Maybe a 15 gall. or so would fit in the space but be lower than the existing tank and not need to fit in the 'notch' you describe. Add portable jugs as needed.

I hope to boondock for long periods, but that is a great suggestion, thank you.

Hi All.  Here's the latest update:

I spoke with the mechanic about his plan to repair the freshwater tank.  He agreed it does not look great, he's going to plastic weld it, that was his intention all along.  Knowing this and now having seen a video about what that entails, some extra money is justified.  What he was asking for the work altogether was too high, and we discussed that.  He says he'll work with me but won't give me an actual figure, don't know why.  I asked him point blank, but nicely, if he has some sort of issue with me or the work and asked if he'd just like to pass on it.  He said not at all, and when the weboost does arrive to give him a call.  It's bizarre.  I guess we'll see early next week, am giving him the benefit of the doubt now.  Will keep you guys posted, and thanks for being there.
