Our nickname for our class C 1982 Tioga that my husband has fixed up this year is "the cabin," and we're getting ready to leave our small town in Colorado for about 6 months... it was going to be day after tomorrow, but we looked at our lists of things to do, checked the weather forecasts, and decided the next day will be just fine. No need to make tomorrow into a grueling marathon, and that seems to work better for our housesitter too.

We're starting by heading southward along the eastern part of New Mexico, going to state parks mainly. We'll get the $225 a year pass that will let us camp free for up to 2 weeks in any park, and then we can go back to that park after being out for 2 weeks. So we'll discover how the internet is via our Verizon unlimited data 4g plan, and that will shape how we travel. Also, some of those parks were VERY cold recently so we'll keep an eye on forecasts, mainly using the weather.com 10 day forecasts.

Photos later. Will we make it to the RTR? It depends on what we find as we travel.

Head south, such a good idea. Hope you make it to Quartzite. Heck, I hope I make it to Quartzite.

Sounds like fun is just around the bend. Enjoy!! Updates and pics!! :)

Yay, an adventure!! Have fun.

A good plan is one that can be easily changed. :-D Take it slow if you hit bad weather. One of the nicest things about traveling in a RV or van is the ability to hunker down and stay awhile if the need arises.

New Mexico has some wonderful state park campgrounds. Have a great time and hope we see you at the RTR!

We'll have to compare Tioga stories once I get mine. Hanging on at Amazon. Long hours, not enough sleep, but I keep reminding myself that this will get me my class C.

I just spent a week in central New Mexico, it was miserable cold! I think you will be changing your plans!! New Mexico is not a winter destination state!! Most of the state is above 4000 feet and that's too high to have a nice winter weather. If you haven't bought the pass yet, you may want to wait to see if you can use it before spring.

The western side of AZ along the Colorado River or the Southern California desert is much, much better because you are near sea level. In fact Slab City is below sea level!

NM *was* very cold last week, but it's nicer now. We got our pass -- we had one before, I think it was 12 years ago, and once we saw the miles per gallon we were getting as we came south from Colorado, long distance travel seemed less appealing. I'm not going to post the amount till we checked some more tanks... it should be a tiny bit better if we aren't going over so many mountain passes. I hope.

Anyway, we ARE on the road! Well, we've reached a state park where we are parked by a lake and enjoying being away from our everyday lives.

Aw, your pups look completely happy. Happy trails to you on your adventure!

A man must be happy to smile like that whilst working under a rig!

Fantastic blog post! Bandana Dan is such an interesting guy, seems to have his life figured out.

If you go there and the pages don't show up sometime in the next few days, it would be because I am moving my sites from one webhost to another.

I enjoy your blog very much. Though it's farther away than I can go for a while, I now have Lake Sumner on my fledgling list of places I want to spend time.
