I only WISH this belonged to me. I saw this beauty today and thought I would take a picture to share on here. Even has solar panels installed on the roof rack. I doubt there is much that could stop this Tonka toy!!!!!

Oh hey, That's My Van!

Yeah.... in my dreams.

Sportsmobile! YAY!

I fully intend to save up the money overy years, to have my OWN 4x4 van.

It would have to be diesel by then, though. Thousands upon thousands, unfortunately.

Sportsmobile has pretty BAD rap in the 4x4 community for using uncessarily complicated fabrications and cheaper than better aftermarket parts for their conversions to 4x4.

There is a smaller, but much better company, and MUCH cheaper, called:

http://www.ujointoffroad.com/

That is the guy I plan to work with, if he is still around when I have the cash to pay him.

I will buy all the parts, and install it myself.

This is beastlier IMO:

Nothing sexier than a 4x4 high top van. Does this get anyone else excited just thinking about it?

the problem with 4x4 vans is the high center of gravity. they are ok in the flats and sand. but in off camber situations not so much in fact a little scary. highdesertranger

I agree, highdesertranger!

But as DollarJoe said, "Nothing Sexier"... at least when it comes to vans.

Use to have a 1994 Landcruiser that had a heavy frame, it would stay stuck to the ground pretty well. Plus the tires tend to be heavy also.

Still think you are better with a truck, and a enduro bike in the back, pulling a small teardrop or fiberglass trailer.

hey now, a waste of money. they are anywhere from $80,000 for a stock two wheel drive to $120,000 for a fourwheel drive camper. i.m.o.,if you want to get away from the poeple. buy yourself a backpack and hike your lazy ass to the back country!!! gary p.s. if you are lazy an old like me buy a dirtbike for your rig!!

It's not like you would use the four wheel van for rock crawling...I believe it is a very worthy investment for what they offer, if you want to keep the vanability of a van...

I dream about it all the time, and I fully intend on having mine converted one day.

I want it mainly for the snow and mud that would occur in the Twisp are of Washington state, and for the ability to drive over fallen debris. I am a bit of a prepper, and having 4x4 is pretty darn necessary for a bug out vehicle type situation.

There are plenty of videos online of 4x4 vans doing their wheeling. Of course, having the option, lets you get even further from help if you need it...

I would just use mine for the slight off roading. Hiking further out, and having a dirt bike is something I want too...I want a whole lot of things attached to my van and future off road trailer! I am 28 years old...I have many years to get my new lifestyle in full swing, or full wheeling.

And the U-Joint Offroad company offers all of the indivdual pieces to start your own simple four-wheel conversions. Four wheel does not mean jacked up 6 inches in the air...but you can, if you want! Their packages start at something like $4000.

My van cost $1200.

If I had bought the U-Joint package I want, at the same time as the van, I would have a 4x4 van for the tiny sum of only $8200...that is a steal.

I would never throw away the cash on a fully converted, 4x4 Sportsmobile ORV.

If you like to tinker, you can save enough money in the long run to buy three or four vans.

Even if I end up buying a whole 'nother van, I would still keep my Dodge B3500, and just store it somewhere for a small fee. I don't believe in just selling vehicles to get a new one. There is always a place to store a great vehicle.

I hate to be a stickler but this should have been put under the topic "seen on the road" or some other general topic.
The name of this topic is "Share your conversion progress". If we start mis-categorizing things this place will turn
into a mess in a hurry.

gus
