Looks like they changed the game for Social Security recipients who don't file tax returns. Well, why not complicate things, seeing how smooth everything else is going right now.

Here is a Forbes article titled "IRS Adds To Confusion About Whether Seniors Have To File Tax Returns To Get Stimulus Checks" which states "But, according to Chye-Ching Huang, Senior Director for Economic Policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, this wasn’t supposed to be the result of the legislation. The Treasury, she notes, was given “clear and explicit authority” to issue checks based on information available from the Social Security Administration."

Okey dokey, the IRS changed the deal back to what it was supposed to be in the first place. If you're a senior and receive Social Security retirement and don't file a tax refund, you don't have to file a tax return to be eligible.

My fridge is on it's last leg, and leaks like crazy, the dishwasher is dead, and the lawn mower died last week and the rest goes to pay my self employment tax bill. if there is anything left it will go in to the bank.

I will use mine to replenish the home tax fund. We spent $2000 to bring our 39 year old daughter home from Indonesia. Flights were very expensive if you could find them. My other daughter put her up in a hotel for a couple of weeks. Now both kids are living together. We are staying apart from the grand kids.

Thanks for that, Bob. Yesterday I was trying to e-file my 2019 taxes so I could be included in this. (Hey, what happened to the 1040-EZ form option?) I make so little money I haven't needed to file the past five years. (State taxes were not an issue either.) I ran into a roadblock in e-filing. They wanted my e-filing PIN from 2018. Well, I don't have one. Calling the IRS was on my list of things to do today, but now it looks like I don't need to.

E-filing is only possible if you have a recent tax return on file. If you haven't filed in, IIRC, more than a year, you need to file a paper return. Then in subsequent years, you can e-file.

I do hand wash my dishes, but not when I have 10 or more folks around, so not right now, but that is not my first choice, Fridge is for the sticks and bricks house, can't do 12 volt, Lawn mower gets hubby out of my hair for a few hours, it is essential for our marriage. We are still building our van works, but have to pay off Uncle Sam first. When did retirement get so complicated....

It got so tough for us we just hit the road in a motorhome and went back to work when we needed to. Not really retired but only work when and most importantly where we want to.

Has anybody that's receiving regular Social Security Retirement who hasn't filed a tax return, with no dependents and with direct deposit not received the stimulus payment?

The "get your payment" tool is useless for me. It's telling me nothing.

According to most of the info I've been reading, most of the people in my group should have had it by the end of April.
I'm not really desperate for it at this time, but I don't want to lose out on it either.

I finally saw the $1200 stimulus deposit in my bank account yesterday....which means it will fund some of the payment I have to pay BACK to the IRS for my 2019 tax year.


Easy come, easy go.

The get your payment tool should tell you that you are eligible and then when your payment is scheduled.

Those getting paper checks will be the last to be paid, from what I understand, but you can go in and enter your direct deposit information and then it will come sooner.

I donated half of my check to the local food bank, and took the rest out in cash to spend locally once we can be out and about.

Same experience for me,

altho I do also file tax returns every year due to receiving healthcare assistance from the marketplace (reconciling their payments to insurance companies is required even if you owe nothing they want the paper trail).

Friend with SS payments and direct deposit received paper check yesterday for the $1200.

I have received nothing, and the IRS site listed above  gives me the message (flips me off again).

Tried to access my IRS account today and found that if you are not in debt and are cash basis you cannot access your IRS account. Here is the link to their rules on that.

FWIW, they do want you to use your old address if you have moved this winter.

I just now looked at my checking account to survey the damage. The stimulus payment showed up. It hasn't cleared into my account yet but it's there. Thought I'd give you a head's up

I paid off my credit card and then put the rest towards the no interest payments for my laptop... I bought a good computer to ensure I wouldn't need another one for at least 3 years.
