I have done a couple of long camping trips with a slide in and loved it. I considered this again before going with the travel trailer. We had old time crank up jacks, just not as convienient but doable even for a person thats not strong. I set ours up and took it off many a time by myself.
Ir was old and I bought it for 200.00 and got lots of use out of it before the bed area fell apart somewhere in Texas.
Word of caution, there are not a lot of slide ins around, at least in this region. They can go fast.
Uh oh. Just reread the ad. Did you see where 'large' was emphasized in 2 places? You don't want to over weigh your trucks. Remember, just because it says you have a maximum load, doesn't mean you should meet the maximum.

It stated at fits in a large bed truck - 8 feet, I'd assume. I doubt it would fit in a Tundra. The question on the F150 would depend on the weight of the unit and the capacity of the truck. A 150 should handle an older unit like that, but best to get more information from the seller.

Ask the dry weight of the unit, how long a truck bed it requires, then check the cargo capacity of the truck you want to use. For safety. add about 1000 lbs to the dry weight of the camper, and make sure it doesn't exceed the cargo capacity of the truck. That 1000 lbs is for your weight, any water or propane, plus any other food and gear you may carry.

Oh I'm not considering it. I put it up just for information. I thought someone might be interested. Having that kind of weight so high kind of bothers me.

something else to for anyone considering an older slide in camper. Older trucks are usually able to haul the load a lot easier than newer ones. An example... I had an older F-250 ford that carried my cab over handily. However, when I updated the truck to a newer F-250 I discovered that not only was the truck considerably weaker suspension wise, but that they had made the bed shallower so I was forced to lay lumber on the rails to support the camper. Boy, that'll ruin your day in a hurry.

just checked, ad was owner removed. Looks like it sold quick. I called about an 84 slide in for $1250, and the guy wouldnt even think of selling it to me because my truck is an 04. He said older truck beds were wider and the camper needed 63" between the bed rails. Sure nuff, measured mine and i have 61". Something else to consider when looking at one.
Squatting dog- that is quite a difference! I had a 74 Chevy half ton that had springs 2" thick at the thickest part. Had the suspension of a steam roller, but would carry an honest two chords of firewood, stacked 3' over the cab!

I hear you Les. One of the best ole trucks I've owned was a 78 3/4 ton chevy (ole whitey). that truck could haul about anything I could possibly pull or load on it. For instance, this easy little trip from Ar. to Ca.
