If you do decide to invest in plywood....without power tools.....Lowes or HD will cut the sheets down for you with your specs.

Good to know.  Will they do just straight cuts or will they do complicated cuts around wheel wells, etc?

I'm 5'5" and can't sleep across-ways in my Yukon. I can barely do it in the back seat of my wider truck. If you are shorter something like that may work.

I'm 5'4" but I don't think I want to try it.  I'm going to sleep lengthwise.  I might have to consider it when I put the seats back in and hit the road until I get my TT.  But hopefully that would only be a week or two.

I sleep on a thermarest deluxe map. a little pricy but has a high R4 insulation value.  I use it while camping and can sleep on the ground comfortably.  I had and still have 3.  and none of them leak.  I think Bob uses one.  And I think Suanne uses or used an REI copy.

a good night's rest is a must as I'm sure you know.

A good night's rest is a top priority.  I just keep looking at those and how thin they are.  I'm not a svelte gal so I can't imagine that they would provide much support.

I worried about only 3" also.  I am pushing 225# unfortunately but you can apply the pressure you need and remove.  I don't bottom out.  Watch Suanne's explanation on Bob's video.  She does it the same way I do.  A few breaths to inflate and slowly deflate to your comfort level.

They'll only do straight cuts but then for the bed top you won't need anything else because it's height will be at least the 12" that is needed to clear the top of the wheel well.

The only time you run in to curved cuts like around the wheel wells is when you're doing the flooring boards. Oh and depending on the style and design of your cabinets you might run in to some there too!

Okay, but I'm not putting the bed on any platform.  I won't need the storage space since I'll be keeping the bare minimum with me and keeping the rest in storage until I hit the road.  So effectively the bed will be on the floor of the SUV.  I do wish the third row folded out like a conversion van set to make a bed.  And btw, if you didn't see elsewhere, I purchased a Suburban.  Once it has been inspected and mechanical work has been done I need to start working on making it stealth and preparing it for the 2 months of living in.

DuneElliot, is your Yukon the 4 door model? , if so, would you mind measuring the floor to ceiling height? I'm considering a 99 4 door Tahoe, and the owner has to get a thing or tree fixed before showing it to me (kids busted the rear 1/4 glass) so I don't know what kind of clearance it'd have

Have you seen this build?

Yes.  Good video.  But I don't really want to do any build out on my Suburban since it will only be for 2 months.  Just gonna pop something in there to sleep on and a few bins with what I will need (clothing, hygiene items, a few food items, cooler, fan, small inverter and my Roadpro).  I will keep groceries at work and make my breakfasts and lunches there during the week.  I may have a Coleman for the weekends but I haven't decided yet.  I will definitely take out the third row and put it in storage.  I might take out the second row seats if I need more room.  But everything will be returned to original later.

Yes. I can do that. Floor to ceiling in the trunk area, or foot-well area? The seats fold flat and would be level with the trunk area.

Might as well get both figures while you're in there, if you don't mind, thanks you, no idea when this guy might get the fixes done

I bought a trailer to be pulled behind my van. I still want the van to be a good camper. That way I can use the trailer as a home base, and use the van for exploring and overnighting in a city.

You may also find having storage in the Suburban comes in handy. My plan is to keep the valuable items like tools where I can better keep an eye on them when I am camping away from the trailer.
