Sids pickup/camper combo work in progress

Hi everyone. My situation is a little unique. I made the decision to move out of my house and into my pickup, but I am still working. I am a contractor for a delivery service, so I have to use my truck to haul things during the day. I wanted something that was open on the inside so I could do that. So this is what I ended up with. I was hoping to find something taller with a cabover. So far I have made a fold up bed and I wired it for 12 volts. I couldnt beat the price. I paid 80.00 for it. I will use it for the rest of the summer while I continue my current job. In september I am planning to quit and go to arizona for the winter and next summer I will probably start workamping. Anyway I will continue updating my progress.

Looks good! <br /><br />Just out of curiosity because we've been seeing many people working independent delivery gigs - do you get paid only when you are actually on a delivery? Some of these guys look like they spend a lot of time sitting and waiting.

<p>My truck has a V8. I do a mix of city and highway driving. Without the camper I was getting 18.5 MPG. With the camper I get almost 17 MPG. I have an RV&nbsp;wind deflector Im thinking about putting on. Maybe it will get my mileage back to wear it was. If I do just highway driving without the camper I was getting almost 21 MPG.</p>

Hi, I get paid by the mile. So if Im not delivering Im not getting paid. If the delivery service is busy you can do pretty good. If its slow then not so well.Looks good! I have seen alot of jobs in phoenix that pay by the hour plus so much a mile. I have also seen the same thing in CA.<br /><br />

Here is the latest addition to my truck. I lost about&nbsp;3 MPG when I put the camper on and Im hoping to gain some back with this wind deflector.

Hey Sid. Hope it works for you. I'd thought about something like your deflector on my pickup if&nbsp;I ever get around to installing a high rise shell like this.

Well I checked my mileage with the wind deflector and I gained 1.5 MPG back with it on. So I can live with that.<br />Here are some pictures of the inside of my canoper. This is how it is during the day when I work. The bed is on the left. It folds down and you can see the legs that fold out. When my bed is folded up I have an extra 6 inches so I can store stuff between the mattress and wall. That helps. The board at an angle in front is what holds the bed up when I have it folded up. The cardboard is there to protect things.
