Seems like all the vans I look into have at least 150k miles, even those just a few years old. I narrowing it down to a high top. Sprinters are terrific but like I said, even a 2008 diesel is worn out with mileage and yet they still want top dollar.

For a diesel, that's not too many miles, IMO. The main thing is the maintenance.

My van has 250k on it and runs as good as it did the day it was new. It is a 2004 Sprinter. I would not sell it. I have it fixed the way I want it.

VanGirl

I would say even a mid 90's gas powered van should be fairly reliable if the small things have been kept up with. My 96 ford with the 351 has 219,xxx and runs like a champ with great oil pressure. it is a crap shoot on hi mileage vehicles. but the mileage should not be the deal breaker.

I agree with the other posters don't let mileage worry you to much, you might look at the rental companys like pensky and ruan leasing they do great maintenance and keep great records, also i noticed on the pensky web page they are offering deals on service like insurance, I also agree with the other posters 200,000 is just warming up a diesel but repairs can be more costly and complecated stay away from units that have filters and regenerate also the ones that use urea additive, Good luck and happy travels.
Got any pics of your Sprinter, especially the inside? Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Good advice on the worries about high mileage vehicles from others'. We bought an 01 Olds minivan with 122K on it last month and took a 1500 mile trip and it ran great and got good mpg. Uses no oil and I had made sure routine matters had been attended to. Had records and had been treated ok. Think it comes down to a serious look at shape of the vehicle and up off ground on hoist for signs of neglect. Modern engines and even those older can go a long time if not abused and taken care of.
