We could possibly make Utah by Nov. That would be awesome not to have to wait till Jan. to finally get to meet you Bob. What is the weather usually like at that time in that area, is it very cold? Would we need to worry about winterizing our rv?

BTW, I'm glad you did o.k. with your knee surgery Cindy, did you have both done? Cudos to you if you did, I was supposed to have both of mine done at one time and chickened out, only had one done, so I know how you feel! Can't wait to finally meet you in Jan.!

I need to be more positive and say I am going to attend the RTR.  I will give a class on how to make cool mittens for yourself and coats for your dogs out of old wool sweaters. In the time before your travels to Quartzite, pick up a few old 100% wool sweaters, they cost under 4 dollars at thrift stores, launder them in hot water and dry on high heat. Pick up some yarn and a few needles big enough the yarn can go thru. A pair of fabric scissors. Just a few items and you don't even need to haul a sewing machine in your van with you.<img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" />  We can make little totem bags, pouches, socks all kinds of things with just one sweater. Dragonfly  If someone else is already doing a class like this then I will join you.

Cool thoughts and project.  If I happen to be in the vicinity I'd like to attend your class.  If not, your post has me thinking anyway of ways I can use some of these old wornout wool sweaters, wool whatchallit blanket-like things knitted.  It's been a thing I've wondered about recently, whether to toss some of the more ragged ones, or put them in storage with all the other stuff I'll be needing come summer, or in the future, but can't take immediately. Edit:  Balaclavas seem to me another possibility.  And wornout fleece jackets, other gear, a similar potential for a source of materials.

I have been doing some repurposing and up cycling, but looks like I'll be able to learn quite a bit from you. I will have a lot of felted wool and yarn. I will have extra needles too. So I will help!

Hey Butterfly, good to hear from you and others interested. This is just right for those of us without the attention span to knit or crochet well. Don't even need a sewing maching. Perfect for living on the road when the day grows long. I'm making a little pouch to hold my pepper spray.

Anyone have the gps coords of the site?  <img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" />  I can't make it but I wanted to google earth the area to see what its like.  Maybe ill see you there from space...so no picking your nose <img src="/images/boards/smilies/nono.gif" />  It would probably help people with units get there too (the road garmin we use takes coords as a destination, just had to look on the last menu page of the "where to" menu, which also gives your current coords).

Not easy to tell from the sky where the roadblock is he refers to on the sketchmap, but 33 39 10.4N 114 111 59.3W ought to put you fairly close to the site.  At least into the vicinity.

Please don't try to drive to those coords!!   Per google maps, the roadblock is at   33°40'20.87"N  114° 8'30.22"W    <img src="/images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif" /> Wish I could go but alas I must work until either they get sick of me or I lose what little respect I have for my employer and do us both a favor by quitting ...  then I can commence to wandering.

So I have really gotten into Mountain Biking since last RTR. I plan on doing lots of riding/exploring this RTR. So if anyone else is into it, bring your bike and lets ride. Really exited to see everyone again! Last year I had to drive back to LA for work a few times, but this year I took the whole time off!!!(actually I quit my job-sort of...<img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" />)

OK, I have been reading this thread and I am still not sure where the RTR will be exactly. OK, I know it is near Quartzsite, AZ and I think the spot is NE of town, could someone confirm this for me? Can you tell me where it is exactly? Thank you, this is my first time to the RTR and I don't want to miss it. I emailed Bob a couple months back and received ( thank you Bob) a reply with a warm welcome, and I assumed the location wasn't set yet based on the information on the "Green" website. The previous post seems to indicate Bob's campsite and I don't want to intrude on someone's home. Good Lord, they let me behind the wheel of a vehicle? (grin) Thanks everyone!

I'm sorry to be so mysterious about the exact location of the RTR, but there really is method to my madness. Because of the 14 day stay limit on BLM land, I need to choose a spot at the very last minute. If I camp in the spot a month before, I will be over the 14 day limit. Plus, a lot of RVers get here starting the first of January and if I post a spot now it might well be taken when we get here in January by another large group.  There are no reservations and big spots close to town are very popular and go fast. Of course! Silly me,<img src="/images/boards/smilies/crazy.gif" /> as it all now makes sense. ( see, told you I was a rookie!) Thank you akrvbob! (expect a special present from Santa this year <img src="/images/boards/smilies/angel.gif" />) I have plans to leave on the first of January from Syracuse, NY with a proposed stop in KY and TN to visit family and friends. I hope to arrive at the RTR on the 8th via Route 66! I am so excited.

There is a now a final location to the RTR January, 2013. Once you turn on Kuehn Street, it is further than the map shows. Keep going about 4 miles until you come to the roadblock, then trun right onto the dirt road. I am there right now (along with 15 others) and you are welcome to join us at any time!!
