I heard that will have an area set aside at upcoming RTR for music.
What exactly does this mean. Quiet time at 10pm.?? Very curious to get this understood.

I still have not seen anything posted on where and when it will be held which would have a lot to do with what activities there will be.

Its like trying to hold a house party at a nursing home

I know what quiet time means. Guess I got to make myself clearer. I was wondering about the music area. Do people jam and make beautiful noise. Or is it boom boxes and overdriven bass crap. Having never been to one, I was just curious.

I haven’t been over there but I know they had karaoke that had to be broken up at a certain time. I’m sure it’s a big party

I meandered over to the music area in 2018 and it was a mix of stereos/boomboxes and in other areas I saw movie projectors playing videos and then some small groups sitting around campfires, singing and playing guitars and harmonicas.

I did not stay (only visited) at RTR during 2019 (this past January) so I dont know, but over in the PAR-T-R (separate area) I know music was played, people were dancing, and good fun was had, judging by the videos I have seen.

I guess the answer is that, depending on where you are and your tolerance (or in-tolerance) for loud music at night, you may end up wanting to move closer to, or farther away from, the music areas.

The government agency that regulates whatever public land you are on sets the quiet times. In many places that will be 10 pm, but it can vary. Having a separate space for music does not circumvent the rule. Sound travels great distances in the desert.

If a tree falls in the forest and those who can hear it don't mind the noise it makes then no one will call the rangers to put a stop to it.

But if someone 5 miles away does hear it, you are imposing on them your selfish desire for noise,  if they call the Ranger or not.
Because you see no one, doesn't mean they are not there. I like to run my generator at 6 am next to the camp that kept me up half the night. I use it to power a boom box playing mariachi music. La Cooka rotcha.

Banging pots and pans should work better. There is no rhythm to it for them to get used to.

I rather like mariachi music
