Does anyone know how much extra gas would be needed if I used a Sears X-Cargo rooftop carrier ?

What % time over 40mph?

How long is a piece of string?

Not much at all if already inefficient and/or keeping below highway speeds.

I went from 40 mpg to 36 with my car. So I lost 4 mpg when I installed mine.

The higher mileage car you have the bigger the hit, ie. Kia girl lost 4 mpg (10%), a full sized car or minivan might drop 2 mpg, still about 10%, so figure on 10%.
