We were members here a few years ago, but I couldn't locate the old account information. Basically, life got hectic, then Covid.
We used the covid stimulus to buy our ex Uhaul E350 box with a 15 foot (14 really) bed. Its a pain in the ass, the drive shaft tried to kill us a week out, but we love it. We are converting it while living in it, so it's a slow process and frequently what we plan has to be changed due to lack of plywood (riots) and not knowing a damn thing about what we are doing. So far, so good. One of the big problems has been the bumper bar brackets. Some just fall off when you take the screws out, some won't even come off with a chisel and hammer, and we would end up with holes in the walls if we persisted. I plan on filling the gaps in the plywood wall covering with bondo and saying to hell with it. What we love about self build is just that, we get to have it our way. We are both retired now, age is showing, and the long narrow walkway of the truck comes in real handy some mornings.
That said, we are city campers by economic necessity. We know its going to take at least two years because that is what everyone says in their youtube and blogs. After 6.5 months, yeah, two years. Then, with any luck, we will hit the road and just enjoy life!
