Many people love the idea of working online from home, and because of this simply typing "work online" in google will return a large amount of spam and scams.
There are legitimate opportunities though, perhaps not making as much as one may prefer, but some exceeding minimum wage.
One option I have been using for several years is Amazon Mechanical Turk.

I have seen it mentioned here several times, and while you are lucky to make more than a few dollars an hour, it is a wonderful opportunity if you want steady income in your pajamas. This link provides information on some of the better paying tasks through Mechanical Turk.

There are several other companies that pay a bit more, but with steeper requirements and harder work.

This is a great resource, maintained by people who are actually earning money. There is a list of potential websites that are well know and have a good reputation. New opportunities are added every day, and employers are reviewed by employees.

Here is a link to some websites that pay a little less, but the tasks are simple and there is always work to be done.

I hope this can help some of you, I know I prefer to see reviews from experienced employees before starting any work. Many of the sites found on google, claiming to make you thousands quick, will not pay out and it turns into a waste of time. With these, while you may not get rich, you have a guaranteed way to make at least a small amount for your minimalist lifestyle needs. All without hard labor, which is always a plus for people like me with a bad back.

Thanks for the great information. I will definitely be looking into these links when I hit the road. Do they all pay via paypal only?

Amazon mechanical turk deposits to a bank account, or you can credit to an amazon gift card. I believe they do paypal as well.
Most of the others deposit to bank accounts, but you would have to check with the specific employer.

I've been active on the Beermoney subreddit for a while, and I can say if you're up to the grueling work, mTurk is definitely the most lucrative earner. At first you won't make much because of your limits, but after they're open, you can go forth and start getting more. Once you have 1000 approved hits, all the really good hits open up to you.

People on that subreddit make up to 100 dollars a day, where beginnders usually make between 5 and 20. It's really good full time, especially if you're on the road, stealth camping, disabled, or just lazy! I plan on this (not full time, just as an extra income) when I eventually hit the road.
