Hi, for myself & my sister California will probably provide the best possible medical insurance. We are both on disability and have Medicare but will need a good Medicaid that covers dental & vision and besides New York state (which we have lived before), there really are no places that provide what we need. Plus there are specialists in California that I would need that are not found in other places in the US (Like South Dakota, Texas & Florida). So we need to establish residency in California once we get our rig and get on the road.

So, I have a few questions:

1. What should we know about getting residency in Cally before we go there?

2. What about mail forwarding? I was looking at using UPS because they are an established company. I'm worried about strangers handling my mail especially since I'm on disability and from time to time the government sends out mail that pertains to my disability. Is mail forwarding safe?

3. Is there any weird prescription laws? In New York state in order to get a prescription filled you HAVE to HAVE it on a legal New York state pad, which means you HAVE to see a doctor in New York even if you are not a resident or just visiting! So getting established and getting our prescriptions was a nightmare when we moved to New York state in 2010.

4. Will the state of California accept a PMB as your real address when filling out paperwork to change over Medicaid? Get a drivers license? Register the rig? and so on. If not is there a particular thing I can do to remedy this?

TIA!
Len

keep in mind CA is a very expensive place to live. fuel cost, vehicle registration and insurance are through the roof even if you drive an older vehicle. if you drive a newer vehicle bring your own lube. highdesertranger

it is very expensave to live in ca. fuel cost extra here and the govner just added a new tax to fuel to help pay for his toy train boondoggle
inless you must live in a city, think small towns away from any city.
aka: very northern or eastern parts of the state.
like summer heat? then down in the valley, but costs to live there.
snows above 3000 feet.
you can boondock up in the mts most of the year.
but you say medical, so living up high is hrs away from seeing a dr.

then there is la, can you say bad gang drug problems.

I did a bit more research and found out that the doctor in question that I would need to see has retired and hist practice no longer accepts Medicaid or Medicare. So there goes that out the window lol. My health issue is not necessarily life threatening, but it is a very specialized field and not many doctors work with it.

L.A? Yeah been there, done that LOL. I lived there when I was about 20 years old for about a year. I know all about gangs and in the worst way trust me. So L.A was never on the table. We really had considered living in North California because that was where that doctor was. They were in San Francisco.
