I have my bureau on top of it right now but life would be so much easier (and neater) if I just took the seat out. Thus the question: What are the chances that I’ll be removing it and the airbag will deploy? I really don’t want to be found unconscious in a parking lot so advice would be awesome.

It’s a 1997 VW Jetta and I’m not finding a consistent answer online

The seat doesn't trigger the airbag. High impact to the the car triggers it.

Ok, so sliding the seat all the way forward and out shouldn't do anything? There must be a lock or something on the seat, but I'm sure I'll find it while I'm down there...
I am not sure it will come out like that Butternut. I believe you will have to remove the bolts or nuts holding it to the floor....
Bri

hmmm... That may be a problem but I have a ratchet somewhere. Remember the old Bugs that you could just slide the seat forwards and pop it out? Easy peasy and extra room in a snap. Why do they make them so hard to remove?
Will the seat then go into the trunk? Or will you stash it somewhere temporarily?
what a hoot! the best part is that i totally got it, and only started giggling when i realized most people would think it weird. but not us :)

I've fallen asleep during a few MRI experiences, so I can see you guys like being Vanpires in the trunk...

This is the craziest (fun crazy) bunch of people, "stash it, I sleep in the trunk "followed by "Vanpires".

A trunk is much quieter than any MRI I've been in.
