Sometime in the last several months, I ran across a thread on the topic of various kinds of remote backup communications. As I recall, the one that interested me might have been made by DeLorme. Not sure. It was some type of rescue device, something like a satellite phone, except it was able to send text messages, as I recall.

A few searches turned up nothing, not that that's unusual. Does anyone have any idea which thread that was, or device?

Thanks for the links. I think Spiff's device is the one that I was trying to recall.

In our dear leader's u tube channel, he is reviewing three products, one of them being the "spot"

He has three parts up there already! Quite entertaining, you all should check them out!

Spot's not worth it, uses the globalstar network and was very unreliable.

The SPOT tracker has improved over its three generations, but it is no PLB, correct. I would only own one if I needed tracking. I don't need tracking ; ).
