I've been looking into this idea for a month now. I have no money to do it, as yet, which is why I came up with living in a van.

There are houses that people want removed because they are going to build a new one. The houses are free, but the catch is it costs about 50k (AUD) to move the house and you have to have land to put it on.

Here is an example: http://melbourne.gumtree.com.au/c-U...se-OPEN-INSPECT-4-JAN-11AM-W0QQAdIdZ341144409

What does everyone think about this idea?

300,000 for a decent house and land.

and we no longer have the garentour option. -sigh-

Max, here in the states, large home improvement chains sell large kit garden sheds, some as big as 16'x16' two story. I have built the 16x20 cottage version for someone and it is more than livable for one or " cozy" for two.
You could also check out " tinyhouses.com" for more ideas.
Less cost, hassle than a moved one ( which , as a builder, I can tell you it wreaks havoc on the structure) but still portable in the sense that you could still move it if you had to. You still have the problem of finding and leasing or buying the land.

The cottages are wonderful. I wonder if they have a version of that over here. I love the writers hayven.
