Hello, VanLifers! I need your help. I bought a 15-passenger van that has rear A/C and heater. In my mind, it simplifies the challenge of how to control climate in the van, because I heard the rear HVAC can be adapted to run when van's engine is not running. I have two questions:
Do you think a Jackery 1000 can run it; and, should I modify it to run off DC or AC current?
Thank you! Steve

This is a new one for me. The rear AC is tied to the front AC and this is all run from the compressor on the engine. The circulation fans are 12V DC. The control to make the air warmer in the back is just a gate that mixes hot air with the cold. There is no separate air conditioner back there.

Do you have a link to where this is being done?

I put in a house AC this year and vented it out the side of the van. There is no heat buildup from the vent because it is such a short run, less than a foot.  I run my house AC off shore power. I also added a trickle charger, also run off of shore power to keep the batteries up when I am parked for long periods of time without driving. You can use a generator mounted on a back porch for the shore power if you will be in remote areas. Otherwise, having a shore power plug is nice for the times when it is available. The 30 amp plug is available at Wal Mart to convert to the 30 amp supply to 15 amp surge protector strip plugin. My surge strip is fairly rugged designed to run power tools at a job site. Hope that helps.

Can you please tell us more about this?  How is the unit mounted and vented?
