So I was thinking we almost need to start a category for noobs like me that are working their way towards freedom via vehicular module. Someplace where they can post their achievements and whatnot. For now, I'll post my stuff here.
So my truck goes in the shop on Monday for a total check up. I imagine i'm gonna get a tranny flush and new brakes at the least. I'm prepping the trailer for paint on Thursday and painting Friday (I glass blasted it this summer when we rented a blaster for a construction job). Truck and Trailer both go in next Thursday for tires. I set a tentative date of leaving Feb 22nd. I say tentative because things can always come up as i'm sure you know. Travel route is set, still have some questions on some of the roads...

Which way are you heading? If to the south, would love to meet-up with you and talk. Ed

Heading down to SoCal from MN via NM and AZ. Enough abbreviations in there for ya, ha! Where are you at?

Just outside Birmingham,Alabama. Long way from any place you are going. Envy you. Ed

I will either be in Quartzsite, AZ or Pahrump, NV camped in the desert in late Feb. You (and everyone else) are always welcome in my camp!!

What kind of a trailer will you be pulling? Bob

I'll be pulling a 1975 22' Mallard bumper pull camper thats been restored quite a bit (and customized for full-time living).
Still in the works of seeing if my 80 something year old grandma is coming along with me, so I can drop her off in SoCal to see her family. I'd love to stop by if I have the chance. I'll keep in touch and let ya know.

I got my trailer painted. It's a Mallard, and i'm a hunter, so I decided to paint it a silver and green, colors you find on a mallard .Here is one of the semi-finished product. I still need to do something with the front fiberglass and add a couple decals. My other pics of it keep timing out on the forum. So I uploaded to my Flickr account. Check out some of my photography while your at it
http://www.flickr.com/photos/45417175@N05/?saved=1

I don't know how I missed this, it is a really terrific idea! Plan on my adding a new forum for this very soon. Bob

So I just moved the thread here. Thanks Bob for doing that. Sorry Katie, I can't change the title
At the shop now and everything checked out besides the differential fluid. Not bad for a truck with 175000 on it.

Don't worry, its just my nickname. I've had it since third grade . Sounds like your on the right path to accomplishing your goal. You should start your own thread if you get closer to converting your van! I love to see people's visions put into action.
Pictures of the interior prior to having all my stuff moved in. Front blue bench folds out to a double bed. I cut the bed down to get more storage and a place to mount my tv. I painted the range and stove from a burnt orange to black to match my 110 volt fridge. Custom made table out of Poplar Aspen from my woods. I got the A/C for free, so I figured I might as well throw it in. Painted the base of that too to match my bathroom sink and shower pan I repainted from an ugly yellow to beige. Totally gutted the bathroom and put in new wall panels and trim. New water pump, water heater, and toilet.
Heading up to Walker, MN for three days to the International Eelpout Festival. Got the propane hooked up and hopefully the 12 volt hooked up this morning before I leave. I'll be parking the rig on the lake and gonna be loving life. I'll try to get some pics of it on the lake. Have a nice weekend you guys!
So after going to and from Pout Fest, I decided that I need a bigger truck. The 4.7 in the Dakota seemed to lug too much on MN hills. I can only imagine what it would do on mountain passes. Going to try to buy a Ram 1500 tomorrow with a 5.9 L . Good thing for the bank of Mom to help me out til I can make some money.
Mouldy! I loved reading this. It's past due for an update, though!

Cyndi
Well, I figured out the 12v electrical system (minus one part that I'm going to ask in electrical now).
Gas is all hooked up and everything works fine (can't figure out how to light the oven, any ideas??? )
Packed all my stuff in to it today and I have ample room! Means either room for a lady or I can accumulate more crap ( don't really want more crap)
Got the 50 gallon locking heavy duty tote on the rear bumper that I welded on. Still have to figure out how to put my spare tire back there, along with welding on a 2" receiver for a homemade folding bike rack someday.
Other than that, just looking for a truck tomorrow and leaving on tuesday.
Heading down to SoCal with my 85 year old grandma! Stopping at my brother's house for awhile and gonna see the family. Then up to Bishop to rock climb and take photos. Hopefully by the first of April, I'll know about a job.
