Rattling dishes, pots & pans etc.

Going to be hitting the road in about a month.

Wondered how y'all stop all your cooking gear, anything really, from rattling and chinking? I fear it may drive me crazy!

I was thinking of making a plate rack of upright dowels with foam covering said dowels. Drawers will have soft foam liners.

Or is it just something you get used to?

I use strips of felt cut to the size of the dishes at hand. Also, strips of felt S-wrapped between bottles to stop them from making so much noise.

I wrap stuff in old shirts. Very handy to have around for rags too.

I line the cupboards with shelf liner. I stack "camping plates and bowls" (Melamine), place cups upside down and nest plastic glasses all on the shelf liner, no putting anything between them. I also use paper plates and bowls, no noise and good campfire starters.

I have my cookware in a plastic tote that is in my base cabinet. I open the door, slide it partway out and grab what I need.

I have a drawer that I subdivided for the metal forks, spoon, knives and cooking utensils.

Anything else that I can store is either in a plastic "canister" or in zip-lock bags.

Everything is behind a closed door or in a drawer. If it rattles, I don't hear it.

On a smooth road it doesn't matter, nothing rattles anyways!

On a rough road, there is so much rattling going on that the dishes and pots are the least of the noise!

I need to try to dampen the noise of some of my bottles in the pantry. It's right behind my head and I hear glass clinking more than I would like. Most of the time stuff is packed in so tight in the pantry that nothing can move anyways...just that one drawer with the red wine vinegar and the Worcestershire sauce bottles...

I can't take credit for this as another member posted it. take old socks and cut the calf part off and stretch that around bottles and such. works great on mason jars. highdesertranger

That's what I did in the big truck.  I bought some cheap dish towels and put the between the plates and wrapped the cups and kept the whole mess in a plastic bin with locking lid.  Be sure to take the glass plate out of the microwave if you have one.  You'll "remember" right away if you forgot.  I think I had more stuff rattle inside the fridge than anyplace else but that was an upright dorm fridge so jars wanted to slide around.  My rig fridge will be a chest type so less of a chance for rattling in there.

I keep the bread and tortillas in the microwave. I also cut a pool noodle the right length to jam between the glass table and the top of the microwave. Lots easier to just pull the noodle when I want to use it and stuff it back in when I am through. 'course I have to remove the bread and tortillas too.

I bought bamboo plates and cutlery, to help minimize rattling. I use dish towels between pots and pans. Keeping everything in a plastic tote also helps.

I use the totes with locking lids as well. Measured the available spaces & fit separate totes each with their own use into them. Cast iron fry pans in one separated by cut foam shelf liner, food products in some others with rags as needed. Heavy stuff down low, & the lighter stuff like plates, bowls, & cups, plastic of some sort, are higher up. For neatness, everything but some clothes and those plastic items is in totes which deadens the sound especially when packed tight, prevents rodent/bug intrusion, and as food supplies dwindle I'll put some rag packing in. The rags, like everything else, pulls double duty so they're handy to have anyway.

The fewer dishes I have, the fewer of them to rattle around -- or to wash. I have one plate, one bowl, one mug, one glass.

Similarly, I cut up old dirt bike inner tubes into thick rubber bands. They work great for for bottles and such. One thing I really like to use them for is wrapping small propane bottles so they don't rattle against each other. They're handy for securing things closed too.

Hey, when I pack to move (not vanning yet) But I get a big stack of styrofoam plates.  You can put that in between everything laying flat, anything standing like glasses bend in half and put between, pot and lid put it under the lid.

Lasts forever.  Weighs next to nothing. Put away to reuse or always keep things that way when you are parked.

I use newspaper, grocery ads, packing paper. for my cast iron ware I'll wrap the pans in the paper and then slide them into a plastic grocery sack
as the paper gets dirty it's a simple matter of just replacing the paper and the soiled paper is used for starting the campfire for cooking on the grill. the freebie info papers in the towns I visit give me info on the area and then get recycled when I start my grill fire..
