Hello everyone. New to the forum. I have yet to get a Van/rv, and am deciding which route to go. I'm leaning heavily towards a box truck conversion. I am a cabinetmaker, and have some pretty great ideas for outfitting one. For its own reasons, standard cargo vans have a lot of pluses.
Anyway, I had an idea for a shower in a regular height roof van. It is basically a two foot square( approx ) shower enclosure. The problem is a regular van is only about 4 feet high. My idea is to cut a hole in the roof, and have a smaller box inside the main enclosure, that would pop up , giving about 6'6" height ( I'm 6'3"). The top would be an overhanging cap, looking similar to a roof vent. It would need to lock in the top and bottom position, and be able to slide out easily for regular cleaning . You would want to make sure it couldn't come out if you forgot to lower it before driving. It may look funny to have a little 2 foot cube on your van for a 5 minute shower, but otherwise pretty low key, especially with a roof rack. My plan as it stands is to have the shower stall behind the drivers seat against the wall, with a fabric/curtain door( can be slid open to dry out and not be in the way like a hinged door, with a shower curtain inside. To enter the shower, you would lift the inside box up into position, then you would have room to kind of crawl in, but you could stand up once in. Lots of kinks to workout I'm sure, but have not seen or heard of this before.. And I looked.
Maybe I will do up a drawing or 2 if my idea isn't clear. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.
There is the matter of drainage, depending on the grey water tank location, making by sure there is a good flashing/seal on the roof... Ease of raising lowering, and staying up or down with no surprises etc. but I think it could work very well.
