Purchased bad Wave 8 Catalytic pad?

Hello all,

Recently purchased a Wave 8 from Walmart dot com, concerned about the look of the catalytic pad. I have zero experience with these heaters, but it doesn't look anywhere near as 'silver' as the promotional material + youtube.  
  


It's more black with tufts of gray, want to make sure its not poisoned etc.
