I remember a few years back a guy I was working with wanted to save up for a house. He and his wife had an RV. He found out that in Santa Clara county,CA (and MANY more) whenever a home is being "tented" for termites that a guard has to be posted as long as the tent is up. He went to pest control companies and offered he and his wife's services. He was able to get $60/cash per nite PLUS plug in to the homes electricity.
He did that for many months....his wife would remain in the RV in the morning as he went off to his "real job". After many months he found a new housing development that was being built and ended up getting $350/month plus full hook-ups just to park there as a "crime deterrent". He didn't even have to walk rounds......just call the cops if he heard something strange. And he was still working his day job !
It didn't take them long to buy their home.

People are so inventive when it comes to making some $$.. thank you for this story. :)

That's very good to consider, as well as variants for guarding construction sites and the like. There's a lot of ways to make money without working a regular day or night job. I'm pretty much done with that, except for temporary work however that's nearly all minimum wage.
Medical studies, while some are squeamish about that, are another possibility. You know, investigative drugs and all... Me, I've found that the weight loss clinics get wide eyed when I walk in. They all want me for the "before" pics. I guess they just photoshop the real clients face or something for the after. I dont stick around, the thought of being thin is scary...
Another one is to waddle, I mean walk into the buffet and loiter around the serving line for a bit. Pretty soon a nervous looking manager comes out and quietly takes me to the side and offers $50 for me to leave. I usually counter with a request to put me on a "retainer". For $100 a month, I won't come back. Good for quick cash.
Third is the advertising outfits. You know, they wrap the cars with the vinyl wrap of their product. I tell them that I'll wear a t shirt that has the same square footage as your typical small car. Same price and I'm more visible in malls and places a car can't go.
Another non standard way is to hold the sign outside of the store. You've seen them, usually kids
spinning the signs to get your attention. Heck, I don't spin anything, except stories... I'm enough of an attraction as it is. Anyway, if it's a restaraunt, I hold a sign saying " I eat here regularly, trust me, it's good!" Or something like that. Believable, right?
When you're plus sized, there are ways to make money. Almost all the models are athletic and young, I was young once, not sure about ever being athletic... Hey, use what you've got.
Great original post there. Keep the non-standard ideas coming!

I have van/RV dwelling friends that make all of their money by simply parking at construction sites or anywhere else that is looking for overnight security. They do nothing except call the cops if there's trouble. Some have been doing it for years while traveling all across the country.

This sort of thing makes a lot better sense to me than work camping putting in many hours of actual work just for a place to park.

Agreed. Work camping is for when you really want to be in that particular place for weeks on end and dont mind puttering around for 30 hrs a week babysitting sites and dealing with the public. Some people love it, they usually have a big rig and lots of other toys and they stay there for the season. As long as they are happy.
Down southwest more in Texas and Oklahoma there's well sites and such that sometimes hire security, perfect for rv ers. With all the fracking there's more visibility for that.
I work temp labor, sometimes long hours , 12's, typically unarmed security for offices. This job is done in 2 weeks then it's off to another place. Once I get my fill I can take time off for as long as I can reasonably afford to, then it's back at it. Trying to save up for a vehicle change.

Workamping.com is the largest source of mobile jobs. They have an astounding variety of jobs everywhere in the country.

Is there an easy way to find these sorts of jobs other than craigslist?

I would just start calling construction companies offering your services.

If you mean security then you just go thru the state employment office. If you mean the rv type jobs then reread above. If you mean my tongue in cheek original reply, then you have to be creative...
