Still thinking on this. It's also attitude for making do or doing without; east vs west. Lots more competition in the east for less space resources. You need to be really strategic in your search to find a camp area. The camp location can be found, but they are usually secretive and exclusive. Finding something below $250 monthly just for primitive camp site is elusive.

Why not have it all? West and East. It's only two to three days drive each direction. Out of 365 days that's not much pain.
Totally agree Offroad.
Spent years flying around the country as part of my job. I'm looking forward to a slow travel everywhere.

That mindlessness happens everywhere.  North, South, East and West.  Van dwellers need to be careful and maitain situational awareness wherever they go.

The Southwest is doomed to a slow death.

Lack of water and no snow pack equals disaster.

No water for food production means total collapse of agriculture.

Central Cali valley already a dangerous place will become a war zone.

Forest fives will become a year round occurrence creating even more air pollution. No water to fight fires means more loss of life and commercial and residential dwellings.

Fukushima radiation already talking a toll on sea life, fisheries collapsing.

Desalination plants not an option due to above radiation.

Million dollar parcels of real estate will be reduced to less than $100k, casing massive bank failures.

As tax base erodes government services dry up, less police and fire protection not a good thing in time of crisis. Established gangs get bigger and bolder.

Then the big earthquake hits.

So conclusion I will not be traveling west of I-75 anytime in the future.

Please be advised that any dust bowl Calis relocating east will be treated by east coast polite society with distain.

Do you remember how you treated the dust bowl Okies in the 1930’s? We sure do!

BTW you medical pot heads affected with your its OK to do it in the middle of the road cult of personality will not be tolerated.

Now, play nice!  We'uns are always happy take their money.   :D
Just hope they don't import their problems......
Nice thing about the van life is being able to leave a failing area.

Enjoyed the above posts.  Hope they don't get zapped.  Hey, I'm from WA--the state!  What is a dust bowl?  :D

Now on second thought my distain towards mass west to east migration is unwarranted.

All the new dust bowl types will be moving north to Washington State in order to hit the bong legally.

And let’s face facts, there is no way a microbus with a no one rides free w/o ***, gas, or grass bumper sticker is going to get past the Texas Highway Patrol.

So please disregard my previous messages and I apologize for any apprehension, fear, and loathing I might have caused.

Attitude filters are in full force for this thread.

Hey,
I live in the NE and love it. Haven't figured out WHY yet!!! Oh yea ,It made it up to 67 today although it was 26* this morning.

I grew up living in the SE. Winters were spent in my home state of FL (east coast). Summers were spent in the SW NC mountains (my dad was a bit of a workaholic and it was the only way to work year round in construction in the 60's/70's). As an adult, I also lived in SC upstate, GA and near Chattanooga TN. I consider all those states to be my "home" area. I have been in NM since 2009 (with a 6 month winter stay on Flour Bluff outside of Corpus Christi TX). I've seen the cliff dwellings up at Bandolier Nat. Monument. I've seen Carlsbad Caverns (a must see for every one). I have had Valley Fever twice (oh joy) and discovered I am allergic to something in the NM valleys. I loathe this state and (illogically) blame NM for the death of my husband. There is no overall "best" place except from a personal point of view. I seriously doubt I will make it back out "west" for a very long time. I head back "home" in Sept. My mountain-born daughter wants to see FL and live on the gulf for a while. She will be living with me for a while.

Doubt that water wars will happen. Will be slow attrition. Raise water utility costs. Everyone will buy a tanker and ship it in from northern areas. Desalination will get more active. Will it all turn into a Sahara desert? Maybe.

Great place to learn to dress in easily removable layers.

Not quite like Fla. We probably won't need the AC until July if we are lucky, maybe not at all. Have heard it said, we in western Pa only have two seasons, winter and the fourth of July and you had better bring a jacket to the forth of July picnic.

Just three seasons in North Eastern PA.

April/May: Mud
June thru September: Summer
October thru March: Winter
