Hi sl,
My time in Santa Fe was in the mid-90's. It was very different then from before in the 70s and 80s, when there were artists living there, and I assume it is very different now! Interesting place, NM. Loved Los Alamos and had friends there as well.

Magenta,
It's not my intention to get into an argument with you. If you will re-read my 2 posts, you will see that they were made in response to your comments about George and Glenn, among other things from other posters. I do speak specifically about George and Glenn in my comments. I have absolutely nothing against either of them. However, they are in a more advantaged economic place than some other van dwellers, and that is what I was trying to point out. If you journey to creative work, like Glenn does (lucky duck!) then having to maintain a low profile so he's not fired is not an issue. If you drive a spiffy class C, then you will probably be of less concern to the local constabulary than someone in an old truck with old cabover or a mysterious van, depending upon the factors I described in my last post. It's profiling, but it's reality. Thus my conclusion that stealth is not a noun, it is a adjective that describes levels of concern which are different for everyone. I.E. Just how invisible do you wish or need to be?

I do indeed believe that economic class has an affect on our judgement of people. Otherwise, homelessness would not be in the process of being criminalized by many cities. I also believe that if your economic class dictates that you have to work and vandwell in the same area, that stealth could very well be an issue for you - thus the example of my experience in Santa Fe. I do wish you the best, but I've done what you are asking about and thus chose to speak up. If you choose to ignore the stealth issue, for whatever reason, that of course is your choice. As I said, it may not be an issue for you at all, and only you can make that decision.

Best of luck with your journey,
Marie Angeli
