Today I seen a van with an air conditioner hanging out the back window; it was parked @ a rest area along with a truck with a wide load. The person was working as a pilot car for someone hauling wide loads.
This situation would lend itself well to someone wanting to live and work out their vehicle. I'd never thought of it before now.

gus

That would be the perfect job for a vandweller. I wonder how one would come across a job like that?

if i may insert some info... I was an owner operator and owner of a small trucking company that did over width, over height, and long loads that needed pilot cars...

Pilot cars are mostly regional, because of well, they wanna go home at night, but there are some company's that do national and international work...

from what i understand the company is licensed and bonded in the state/region they work... The pilot car is used to keep and direct the over sized loads of truckers from danger by diverting them from low overpasses to making the public aware of a wide loads on the road in front of them...

Some do a critical jobs of keeping dangerous loads like that of spent Nuclear rods and seeing them clearly to a destination... very serious with the DoD in trail...

you would ask in the region you are in, and as most work, would work up to the critical jobs as you learn the trade...

yes a perfect job for some, remember you will have to pass a background screening at least...

Another great idea I never thought of much. ( we need a " palm smacking forehead" smiley face) . Another place to start might be a company that manufactures and/or moves mobile homes. ( the big ones, not your van)
