Personal 6-Can Mini Fridge Cooler

I bought the above item at a yard sale for $5 about five years ago and it’s been sitting in my designated junk pile.

So tonight on speculation I plugged it into my 7-year-old starting battery that I replaced with a new battery to start my truck.

The old battery has been charged up via a 1 amp motorcycle battery charger and it sits in my apartment ready to be loaded with my 50-watt solar kit by the end of the week before I go south to Florida.

After less than two hours of operation, my refrigerator thermometer reads 40 when placed on the shelf toward the rear of the cooler and my inside ambient temperature is 72 degrees.

I am going to run it overnight to see how much voltage drop has occurred at the battery, but unfortunately I only have an analog Amprobe with a 100-volt scale to obtain a reading.

The six pack size can work for me using the top part to hold two 12 ounce cans and the bottom will be able to contain my weekly ration of 6 eggs, 8 hot dogs, ½ pound of bacon, and ½ pound of sliced cheese.

When it is 100* outside, it might drop to 60*.

I had one of those and passed it on as the cord got hot, and the cans stayed warm.

Try it with cans and see how it reacts.

These inexpensive thermo electric coolers are OK but very inefficient, they drain a battery quick. The manufacturers of these things recommend that you use it only when you vehicle is running because it can drain a battery in 3 hours. I have used these before but I wouldn't depend on it to much.

I have one of these in my Toyota camper I got it the same way you did I am very happy with it, I only run it when I am driving but that helps when on road trip it works fine.

I tried 2 different thermoelectric coolers, a 6 pack one and a bigger one maybe it could hold a case. big energy hogs and when it gets hot they don't work very well. you re lucky to get a 40 degree drop in temp. mine would go 25 maybe 30 degrees below ambient. highdesertranger

It was still running after 11 hours and the inside temp was still below 40 but the battery took a beating.

I move to a new camp every 7 days and stop for food fuel and ice. My thoughts are if I am far away from an ice source I can run this for 3 days and shut it down after I go to sleep while the ambient temps are the lowest and restart the fridge at sunrise when the solar panel starts to charge the battery.

My thoughts are I can get two cans of soda cold from sunrise to noon then load two cans of beer at noon that will be cold by happy hour then load another two cans of soda which will keep the food colder overnight while it's turned off.
