Yes, never keep more in PayPal or any payment processor than you'd be comfortable losing.

They often freeze accounts without good cause, can take a very long time to get the money out, if ever.

I was a power seller a few years ago on e-bay and my worse problems were a few customers. I got scammed once when I bought an iPad and the seller never sent it. It took 3 weeks but ebay put the money back into my paypal account. The other thing I wouldn't do is sell to someone with a below average rating.

^^ There's a setting to eliminate bidders with negative feedback- People ask to lift it so they can bid on something- Hate to be a jerk in policy and in general, but I don't.
MANY of my customers are first time eBayers- because they can't get stuff anywhere else- But no real problems- Once and a while a guy will get confused with PayPal, but they get it worked out.

Non- paying bidders, although few and far between- Are a hassle- BIN* you can set for 'immediate payment required', but not best offer or actual auctions. Someone suggested making a counter offer at their offer price on best offers- That way you can check 'immediate payment required'

*'Buy It Now'

The way the PayPal/eBay account works....they freeze the funds until the transaction is complete. With buyer keeping a open/hold on it...you cannot transfer the funds

No, talking about doing hundreds of selling transactions, just don't leave it in there, sweep back out to your bank account or use your card to take out cash, as soon as it is released.

Both of my bad experiences as a customer were about 10 years ago, at the time I didn't have a credit card linked to paypal, just my bank account. I now only have a CC linked I would have the credit card company refund my money now.

In both cases I just did not receive my goods. The sellers were able to prove to Ebay/PayPal satisfaction that they sent the items, I just never got them. Both were sent through USPS with no tracking.

eBay and Paypal require tracking and proof of arrival now.

Yes, this is one area buyer-scammers take advantage, just claim they didn't get it and put in for a refund.

Seller-scammers too, I guess enough customers don't keep track or don't bother putting in claims on small stuff.

But really, overall we're talking very small percentages.

Even in niches with rampant fraud, you learn the telltales - my very young kids are buying and selling Pokemon and other trading cards without guidance from me anymore, have collections worth thousands.
