if you stay in rv parks short-term when they wouldn't usually be full, the money to join passport america may be worthwhile. It's a 50% discount, but each park has it's own restrictions on when it can be used, extra charges, etc. If you join from my blog I get a commision.

Anyone care to share their experiences with passport America?

i thought they had a restriction on what type and how old a vehicle could be to stay at there places

Some parks do, others don't. Some parks have tent sites and rates, you might be able to put up a tent and sleep in a van parked next to it. :) As I said, this is for people who want to stay in RV parks occasionally.

We use http://passport-america.com/ for our short term camping needs when we need hookups, throw in http://freecampsites.net/usa/ (thanks Jon and Jen) , http://www.casinocamper.com/rv-parking-locations , http://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations.htm , a few "lets just park here for the night spots" and we have only paid retail for one night since we have been on the road (Jan 4, 2011). We figure boondocking costs about $5 a night because of propane for fridge, propane if we use the heater, and about one gallon generator gas. Our nightly cost for last year was less than $10 a night counting in that $5 charge.
