Went through this last June. It is daunting to say the least. Will say, there was a sense of liberation when done. Good luck!

Hey She...good to see you weigh in. I'll never get to retire. I'll have to work til I die. That's ok tho. Most people I know will. I will work as long as I am physically able to tho.
That's why I'm staying around here to work for the next few years so I'll be able to save up enough to keep me going. I believe I can do it. Longevity doesn't run in my family so I think I'm good to go. lol
frickinducky, that's one heckofa name. lol It is daunting that's for sure! I bought 3 more tubs today. That's it tho. not keeping anything else that won't fit in those 3 tubs.
Thanks for the well wishes!

Well, it's only been a few days since my last post about this but I've gone through even more stuff, it's truely amazing how much crap we accumulate over the years.
I have a keep pile in the corner in the living room and just this morning I went through my bedroom, again, and threw out even more crap. lol Wow! This is truly a test for me. I've tossed so much stuff it's unbeliveable! I think there's even more to go as I haven't even hit the back room yet as that is where my storage is. lol Wow, just wow! I hope I can get through this by the end of May.

Last week I gave away three guitars (one a vintage Fender Strat). Over the years I've given or sold so much music gear. A 1964 Gibson Firebird, A 1964 Fender Bassman 50w amp. and several other guitars. I still have a few things stored at my dad's place, but they are going as soon as I can find the time. I'm starting to digitize all my media (DVDs and CDs). It's nice I can copy all that stuff and then sell it too.

What I learned is that it was just stuff. Nothing but wood and wires and such. No matter how much I loved these things, I knew they'd never love me back. When I got hungry, the only way they could feed me was if I sold them because I couldn't make a living playing them no matter how hard I tried.

Wow Scoundrel! Now that truly is a test! I'm sorry you weren't able to play those and make them work for you. Good for you tho for using them to feed you. I'm going to see about downloading my dvds to my laptop. Not sure if I can tho. I'll try. I may have to get more memory put on this thing. Then I can sell all my music and dvds. have a bunch of those.
Thanks for the response. just wild!

It sucks that I could make more money playing guitar on street corners than I could playing in nightclubs.

Here's a short video on me.

Sorry, but that's the extent of my online musical content. Thanks for the complement though.

And don't fret over ridding yourself of all that extraneous stuff.

You guys go get all that stuff back ! I want it.

LMAO! Very funny owl! and what would you do with all that "stuff"! LOL

That's the good part about kids - one day I'll dump a Hamar arch top, Ovation twelve string, Kohner 'WanderGitarren', a Breedlove six string, and a couple of Marshall amps onto my son's lap. Let him worry about selling them.

Or storing them...

Oh yea - and about 30 years of camera equipment, as well *grin*

clean heart, save it for posterity of course and potential profit !

My son just wasn't musically inclined and I don't agree with just hanging guitars on the wall. They were made to be played, so I sold or gave them to players. Except my last jumbo acoustic. I'm hanging onto it.<br></span>

Cleanheart....it won't be memory you need but hard drive capacity... If you rip your movies (dvds) to 700 mb avi then you can store about 600 movies on a 500gb hard drive. If your hard drives is not that big or you would rather not use up all of your space. ....then you can always rip them to an avi and store them as data on a dvd... in this way you can store 5-6 movies on one dvd and then move them on and off you computer or watch them from the disk drive. This method will make 10 dvds hold approx 50 movies....this also works for music... you can rip it to mp3 and then store it on a cd or dvd even.... a cd will hold 100-130 mp3's as data and dvd will hold 400 to 450.. saving stuff to data on a dvd or cd is like using a flash drive or sd card ... with the difference being it is not re-usable... athough there are some methods for that also.

600? That's a lot of movies! I was thinking about buying an external drive, but if that's all the space they take up, I'll just store them on my laptop. That's where I watch them anyway.

For music I'd recommend an MP3 player. The record collection I had in the 80, that took up a wall in my bedroom, now fits on a gadget the size of a Zippo lighter.

Small is sexy!
