They are on the same kind of crap diet we are and are getting all the same kinds of chronic health conditions. My cat has hyperthyroidism and kidney disease from ****** dry food. My friend's dog just died with cancer (he actually died choking on pound cake, so that was probably better than dying from the cancer). Raw food diets are easy to make and very very healthy for our pets. I had gotten my cat on one  but she started throwing up more and couldn't handle it so she's back on grain free canned food.
