I saw a interesting article on the news recently about the outlet stores. The concept is that you are getting the real deal at a lower price be it because they had over stock or slightly off items that you got at a discount. I always wondered though how a company could over produce or mess up enough stuff to stock the multitude of outlet stores around the country. That's the thing, they don't. The items in the outlet store are first run lower quality merchandise with the top dollar brand name on it. Yes you may be getting a coach bag but everything about it is lesser than the real deal in the real Coach store. No longer do you have to buy a fake in the dark back ally out of some dudes trunk where at least you know it's a fake. They will sell it to you in a store and tell you it's real.

I don't know, every outlet store I've visited, I thought was way over priced.

X2. Never did get the appeal of outlet stores or malls but that's me.

Bakery outlets are very cheap at least here and Ive been to Russell Stovers outlet stores also.Good CHEAP prices on chocolate! :)

Outlet stores used to sell items from previous seasons which didn't sell well in retail, factory seconds, or overstocked items ( yes, companies often do create inventories, overestimating demand for various reasons.) but stores are now capitalizing on the fact consumers identify 'outlet' with 'greatly reduced price', which is often no longer the case. We live near an outlet mall, and often find better prices there, on items the retail retail stores no longer carry. Other stores just sell at retail, and hope you think you're getting a great deal.
