Smartphones are like toilet paper, 100's to choose from. In the past the Verizon droid x was pretty good and now it is so old school.

I've been using an HTC G2 android for 2 years and am VERY happy with it. I bought used for cheap. Although the T mobile service isn't so good if you get too far off the interstates. I use it for calls, texts, email, as a wifi hotspot and to listen to internet radio shows while I'm driving among other things. There may be something better, but I haven't seen it.

Whatever you get, next week or month, they'll be something better. Go with what works and doesn't break the bank. You need 4G, or can you make due with the older 3G? Do you just call or text or do you use it for email and web surfing? I think a phone is alot like a woman, so many too choose from, you just have to find the one that right for you!

aaaggg screen on laptop went blank when i tried to post.

i have the samsung galaxy proclaim. got at wally world for 149$ plus the 45$ unlimited card. i have been very happy with it. its on the straighttalk prepaid. i saved and researched, read Les's posts too. its on verizon network so i have good signal everywhere.

my oldest son got a kick from my first post to him: "mom is a android"..

I seen the Samsung Proclaim, seems like a good deal. Now ST has out the LG Showtime.

As Scott_1776 stated thing change so quickly, so the old PC may be a thing of the past.

Hey Aunt Meg, Does this unlimited card you got let you use your phone as a hotspot? I'd rather get a more cost effective plan. $45.00 a month?

You mean like wifi yes it has wifi It will pick up wifi find Hope that makes sense I'm on the talk to text Yes 45 plus tax probably 48 I really love this phone I'm on the site now it was well worth the money $149 for the card I will get a thumb drive or flash drive whatever they call it they're $8 at the dollar store this let you store data off the phon phone was 149 the card was 45 the phone card 30 days card unlimited)

cool! Thanks for the info. I've been using an HTC Inspire for 2 years and it's starting to act like it doesn't like me anymore and I'm tired of paying $120 a month with ATT!
So...you CAN use a laptop with your phone as a hotspot? That was a yes?

I have verizon 2 year plan with HTC thunderbolt. While this is the only "SMART" phone I have used, there must be something better.

$180 Month 2 phones, shared minutes, lots of texst mesage, one 2GG data, other 5GB data with HotSpot. 4g LTE better than DSL.

I absolutely love my Thunderbolt! I've had it since they first came out and have a water resistant Seidio case and extended capacity battery. This thing has been through Hell and back and I've never had an issue with it. My contract is expired and I could upgrade for free, but I don't plan on doind so until this one kicks the bucket.

Wow, you guys have the Verizon Thunderbolt? I also had the Thunderbolt since day 1 when Verizon first offered it. It was great for about a year. Then it started going downhill with too many random resets and other strange problems. If you visit the AndroidCentral.com chat forum website, you will see literally countless complaints about the Thunderbolt phone. I called Verizon to complain, and they ended up sending me a Droid Razr Maxx phone as a replacement for my Thunderbolt. I don't use the Razr Maxx phone anymore, other than using it as a "fancy iPod" music player for its Bluetooth music streaming to a Bluetooth wireless speaker. My primary phone now is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I really loved my Thunderbolt the first year I had it and waited weeks and weeks in anticipation of its arrival. I was literally the first customer in line at 5am in the morning at a local Verizon store to get the Thunderbolt phone on opening day! Ahhhh, the memories. By the way, if you guys want to buy the extended life "hump back" battery for the Thunderbolt, let me know. I have 2 extended batteries, plus a few stock batteries, plus the silicone carry case to go with the hump-back battery. Battery life was one of the Thunderbolt's downfall because nobody knew how fast 4G internet speed would chew up battery life in a hurry. Everyone now knows better regarding 4G speed and battery life, so all new phones now have much better battery life right out of the box.

On ebay there is a seller selling the Samsung proclaim with phone and 1 month for $139 delivered . But net10 service .

I read that you don't want to hook a USB cable up to your laptop because you can't make it a brick There are programs you can download on your phone to make it a wireless connection to your phone wifi but I haven't read all of it yet

Tried several different version when BS ( beloved son) when off to school. Wanted text capability. After several types fell in love with the old original iPhone. When it died, After 5 years, upgraded to the 4s. love SIRI. Still grandfatehered in on the all you can eat data plan.

For data, 4g is far superior. For talking or texting, not much different.

Yes. Thunderbolt needs to be reset very often when using for internet. I have the big battery. I have dropped and broken the screen on the phone, twice, it still works. I use mine tethered by USB to laptop or with "hot-spot" for internet use. 4G LTE is faster than my DSL line.

Zil,

You should call Verizon tech support and speak with a Level 2 rep. I did the same, and they sent me a Droid Razr Maxx as a replacement for my defective Thunderbolt. The Razr Maxx with its 3,300 milliamp battery is very long lasting, and the phone is a large upgrade from the Thunderbolt. No more "hump-back" extended battery, as the Razr Maxx is a very slim phone, and the internal (non-removeable) battery will easily last all day. I still have the Razr Maxx phone which I'm using as a music/media player, but my primary phone is the Samsung Note 2 by Verizon.

Casey

I'm using an older Motorolla Droid X. I like it and have been using it for a couple years now on Verizon 3G. It's fast enough for what I do.
Also, it can be used as a Hotspot to run my laptop on the net. Works pretty well for that.
As an aside, if anyone offers you a Palm Pre, or Pre II, RUN! That has to be the WORST phone I have ever had.
-Bruce

I'm a really old school guy, but my all time best smart-ohone was my Nokia 6620. It's too bad Nokia doesn't re-issue a modern version of the 6620. BTW my 6620 still works. I also have a Nokia 2600 classic semi-dumb phone that still works. Currently i'm using a Nokia C3, and recently bought an unlocked Nokia C2-01 unfortunately that couldn't be connected to the US AT&T network.

iPhone. Computer and phone all in one.

Buy one outright, set up a cheap (2.99) VoIP Skype, and pay for a mobile hotspot from the company of your choice. Everything taken care of at once.
