How I’m going to make money on the road!!! I’ve started making amd selling chainsaw carvings.

My plan is to live in a truck camper and travel around doing on site chainsaw carvings amd also selling what I male at shows and festivals!!

In going to need to get a small trailer to carry my saws in, but thats easy. So far since I started around the first of july i’m making $500 a month and climbing.

Do you carve bears? I am into bears with fish.

What part of the country are you in? There are big flea markets all winter in the southwest.

I’m just learning bears! In about a month I’ll have them down. I live in Iowa

There should be a new market for this after the fires....for folks that have damaged trees.

My dad was a master carver as a hobby and it was a hobby because he wasn’t much of a salesman! Good luck in your endeavors and as my dad used to say “You can ruin a good enjoyable hobby by making it a business!”

Make some miniature brooms (for decoration) and you will sell even more. I collect those as do other people.

Very nice! We saw these folks in operation at Eagle Nest, NM back in June.

I’ve been fascinated by these type of carvings for years. And as an amateur photographer for years I’ve been taking pictures I probably have several hundred pics different carvings. Some are exquisite and some are average. All of them are better than I could do. I’m going to try to figure out how to put pictures on here and maybe put a few of them up for you. One problem I’ve seen with these kind of carvings Is that some carvers leave the stump attached to the roots. It doesn’t take long for the water etc. to come up from the roots and ruin the carving. The best ones are preserved by cutting it off at the base and then mounting it on a non-porous material separating it totally from the roots. Keep up the good work.

Almost everything splits if you come from a humid climate to the dry southwest after a few years.

So true! I used to love training dogs until I started doing it professionally. Hopefully you can keep the enjoyment in your endeavor.

With that kind of talent, you will do well my friend.

The good news is that next year should have many more (non-covid closed) open festivals, and folks will want to go to them, and spend the money they saved this year, good luck
