I suffer from Wander-Lust and love to travel, but I understand the importance of having a home-base! I just spent 8 of the last 12 months traveling in my small RV and I'm now back on my 20 acre off-grid Kentucky Farm. I have off grid power and a water collection system! I'm working on a small garden now. I will probably spend the next few months in Kentucky, except for a few short trips in the region! Anyone in Kentucky is welcome to come-by for some cowboy coffee!
The advantage of having a home-base is that if times get tough, you always have a safe place to come home to! Traveling is a lot of fun but can be tiresome! It's nice to have a place to park your rig and re-charge your batteries!

I love it! A beautiful spot! Good plan you have done. I too have a home base but not off grid....I may rectify that at some point and go to solar power but haven't as of the moment....

Nice of you to offer coffee and if I were out east I would definitely come by, but don't know if that will ever happen again.
Bri
That's what I have plans to do, except it'll be in high elevation desert. I've got land like that right now, but it's in CA. I'm waiting for the real estate market to improve before I sell it. If it doesn't I may just have to make that my home base. I'm hoping not because I want something in AZ or NM.

Looks like a little piece of Eden to me.
What a great set-up, I'm jealous!! I'm looking for something just like that except here on the West coast. I'm hoping to have some money from a Workmans comp settlement, if so I plan to get some land and turn it into a Vandwellers Community. It all remains to be seen, but I'm hoping. Bob
Thanks for the nice comments! I will try to post more pictures as my projects continue to progress. I keep an acre or 2 mowed to have a place to park cars, hit golf balls, have BBQs etc... the rest of the pasture gets bush-hogged for hay a few times a year. About 8 acres of the 20 are wooded with 2 seasonal creeks running through it! Kentucky has a long growing season and the land was a former dairy farm so the soil is really rich! Mark Twain said, "buy land, they are not making any more of it..." I often wish my farm was out west but I bought it to be close to family and don't plan to sell it... maybe I will buy something smaller out west in Az or NM in the future in addition to the Ky property. I have looked for the "perfect" place to set-up for the last 25 years (all over the world) and all I can say is everyplace has its good points and bad points. States out west have a lot of restrictions on what you can do on your own land. Some states do not allow water catchment systems because they say the water was not intended for you but for the ground? Go figure? Then again the west has more public lands which is a plus! I guess I could be happy in a cardboard box if I was around good friends and living a meaningful life! If anyone finds eden, please let me know!

I'm 20 miles west of Lexington, a mile from the Ky River.
-AK

That's beautiful black, you have enough property you could put in a legal campground and make a little income if you ever needed to. Kentucky is a very beautiful place.

You have a great setup, but actually no reason why you shouldnt have two or three of these "homebase"places.

OK - if there is more than one then is it really home? Fair point. But different needs, different kinds of problems require different places.

I am trying to get together with a few others to buy a range of getaways that would be ideal as a part-time base and recharge area.

Perfect idea. Its what I'm working towards.

Rae

Yesican, that's the attitude to have! You are working toward a goal! As I have said before most people never reach a goal because they have no plan!

This is an interesting idea. Make a private-private campground. You only allow a few friends to camp there. Charge dirt cheap fee, and deduct expenses as small business. Could even have a senior care taker do the work for rights to stay at no cost.

Think more people should partner up and do this.

I kinda have my own campground,up in my 7 Ac. field, all grassed (1) 15 amp circuit to keep a small reefer going & a light or 2.Got my Casita camper there now ---ill be there all weekend..
take care all.

sparky1 in southern Va.

AK has too nice a private sanctuary to open it up to the public. It was very kind of him to share it with a few of us for a weekend. Too many people too often would ruin it.

Not to mention making it commercial would bring the government down with fees, regulations....

Naw. Leave it as pristine as possible.

Thanks for the nice comments Seraphim! I really enjoyed having you fine folks visit!

]A goal without a plan ,is nothing more than a dream....Thats the number reason most people fail at whatever their "goals" are.
