I have decided to get another large bus, hopefully not running, and raise my bus roof. I have read of people getting old, non running busses for free. Any suggestions on how ? I am in Texas

Not sure how that will work for you these days. I would put an ad on Craigslist or sequester one at a junk yard. The junk yard would have the means to do the separation and set the top on your bus. It would be an extremely hard project without the proper equipment. However, it wouldn't be free anymore; it would cost you.
Scrap prices for a full sized bus are around 1200.00 so you may have trouble finding a free bus. I was told that by a bus dealer. He prices his lowest priced buses this way:
Motor & trans are worth 1000.00
scrap bus is worth 1200.00
So he sells his lowest priced buses for 2000.00 so he doesn't have the hassle of tearing them apart to get his money.

Makes sense to me.

I see busses all the time out here that a person could get for free, or at least super cheap!

Drive around out in the country for a day or two, and just keep your eyes peeled. You'll see 'em behind barns, in the back of heavy equipment lots, and even in people's back yards. Oh...and junkyards too.

I hope you're not shy, as you'll hafta bang on a few doors, but unless you live in a very upscale neighborhood, I'll bet you could find several in pretty short order. If they don't wanna get rid of their bus, then I'd ask if they know where there's one available. (yeah, and I'd check Craigslist too)

OK.....first, I'm not sure I'd tell 'em what you're gonna do with it, because they'll think you're gonna chop it up in their front yard!!! NO.....I'd just say you're needing a bus body for a project you're working on and would they like it off their property.....and you'll be kind enough to haul it away for them for FREE!!! (you may need to pay $100 or sumthing, but I'm betting most will be glad just to get that junk outta their yards!)

next, do you have or have a friend who has a truck big enough to drag this thing home?? If not, then it's towtruck time...(aka $$$$)

I know where there's at least 5 busses I can get for free (or super cheap) right now. (how far from the Oregon coast are ya????)

Aargh ! Just 5 months ago, I was living as close as Sisters Oregon from the coast ! Now I am temporarily in Houston TX, while I get the bus converted. I will look around and see what I may find here.

So um ... I guess my own bus will not be good to tow the free bus with then ? Rats !

I see no reason why that wouldn't work

of course it would mean that the bus you wanted to tow was rollable.

Well there are clutches/trannies that can be fried, depending...

Yo....Clanman!!!

What's goin' on with your build?? Haven't had any updates in a bit....wth??

I thought of something about this build....

you say you're gonna drive this bus up to NorCal from down where you're at, and I was thinking that maybe you might wanna wait until you get up here and situated BEFORE raising your roof.

It'd make the build go ALOT faster, and you'd get much better fuel economy on the trip. But once your in NorCal....it's CHOP TIME!!

so....What's Up Dude????
