It was an experiement, a way to appease curiosity and learn new skills not running away from pain.  He's going to continue other aspects of experimentation as time allows.

And for y'all knocking the posing in the pictures...he did state in the article he was very inspired by the Curtis photos of Native Americans and every one of those was posed as well.  He's perpetuating an art form Curtis started but with the detail of digital, not trying one up Barely Grills Hotel Adventure.
