Holy cow, since we bought the roadtrek I've been inundated with suggestions about groups I "should" join.  Oh, you have a Roadtrek, you should join the international group ($15 a year), but to do that you have to belong to the family motorcoach group ($80), don't forget a towing service like Good Sam ($90), but you have to join their group first ($25).  Consider Escapees, or Rainbow RVers, or RVing Women, or...

Good lord, even if I was interested in joining, who could afford all the groups!  Beside the point though because I don't enjoy belonging to organized things, I didn't even want to play softball anymore because I got tired of the obligation on my time.

So, I'm not a joiner, I didn't pledge a sorority in college, I don't belong to any honor societies, veterans groups, or retired/former firefighter organizations.  Don't enjoy the meetings or newsletters or structure.  My friends have long said "when you die they should put 'all she ever asked was to be left alone' on your tombstone".  Internet forums are about as "join-y" as I care to get.

I imagine I am not alone in this particular dislike among this group.  ;)

Many of us are solo and full timing because we enjoy our own company.

Ya, I'm not much of a joiner either.

The one volunteer group that I belong to, well, if I didn't like going out working on the hiking trails so much I certainly wouldn't tolerate the meetings... Ha, come to think of it, I get to skip all the winter meetings where they sit around and discuss what they're thinking of maybe, might be getting done the next year if they can all get their act together and maybe find the time...I won't miss them in the least.

The only groups I've belonged to other than internet groups is social groups like the van clubs I used to run with. Other than that, it's not that I'm a loner, it's just that I have no desire to pay dues and deal with b/s.

AT - here in FL we bought a condo, they have occasional board meetings, I went to every single one until the last one, I looked at my beloved and said "I don't HAVE to attend any more meetings for the rest of my life... so I'm not going!".   :D

Over all the years I've been on the road I passed on a lot of the groups I was expected to join.
Starting with the musician's union and continuing for all of that time , 25 years.

Then , I bought the big class A and subscribed to Motorhome magazine , let that expire , waste of money .

I joined the Good Sam club , ditto .

SKPs and Workamper , good for a while then not so much , just let them expire too.
Still check their forums from time to time , some good people and info but don't post much anymore.

Now , I spend most of my forum time on one called CRVL , and a little  time on the IRV2 a couple of groups I've found there are fun to be a part of. Both of these forums are free and I enjoy sharing my experiences and helping newcomers to this wonderful lifestyle.

The only club that I see as possibly useful now is Coach Net towing insurance , but if your rig is fairly reliable it's probably better to pass and just save the cash towards a future tow bill. [Mod split posts about towing insurance here -- https://vanlivingforum.com/Thread-RV-Road-Service-Insurance]

I think this group is a great bunch of folks and chances are that somebody from the group will probably be somewhere nearby and willing to help any of us that need it , even if a little travel might be involved.

If you are reading this , you're already part of maybe the best group ( tribe?) you can be for support in this lifestyle................................Thanks to Bob for starting it  ;) .
I know I'm glad to be here and will probably stick around for a long time..

[post split by mod to include Coachnet portion in the RV Roadside Insurance thread/topic] ...

To my mind, a group mostly is a social phenomena.  Though now that I think of it, the 2 or 3 groups I belong to are pro-2nd Amendment groups, and there's not really any socializing involved.

Regards
John
