Maybe everyone else is already familiar with this scam; but it was new to me, and if I can save anyone a moment's hassle (or worse) I'd like to.

I got a call from someone explicitly claiming to be from Medicare saying that by now I should have received my new plastic Medicare card. It sounded reasonably plausible but they were calling from the wrong state (info two years and two states out of date). I said thanks I'll reach out to Medicare myself and hung up. Per the Medicare chat line it's not real, and per Uncle Google the same scam has been around for awhile.

Q: What kind of scum-sucking varlet preys on old people?
A: I dunno but they've got a lot of company.

BTW that Medicare chat line works pretty well (shorter wait times than the phone!) and is supposedly available 24/7. Seems like a pretty good deal.
